I know @SpawnFlyFish (Josh) is probably too polite to ask to post up on here about this, but since they're such an institution in the PNW Fly Fishing (not just the website, I mean overall) landscape, it's worth filling everyone in. We don't have sponsors, so he's not paying us to say anything or paid for any rights to advertise, this is just me/us wanting to support a PNW-based business in a tight spot.

They're having a sale to help raise money to pay for damages when snow caved in the roof of their Ilwaco store/warehouse:

We want to share something personal with you. Every step of this journey you’ve been by our side, and this is no different. We’ve never raised capital, we don’t come from money, and every single morning we wake up and bust our ass to keep this shop running. We’ve never asked for a handout—and this isn’t one of those times. Today, we need your support in a very real way: by shopping with us.

Last week, our nearly 6000 square foot roof—met it match during the biggest snowstorm in 20 years. We need to replace it before it’s too late. For the past 7 years, we’ve operated as lean an mean as possible while working other jobs, which, as you might imagine, can be incredibly challenging while adding this to our plate.

To make this roof happen, we’re launching a site-wide sale, starting right now. We have a monstrous selection and inventory that we’re proud of, and we’re not asking for charity—we’re asking you to shop. Tell your friends, spread the word, and once we hit our target, the sale will end. We will get a loan and sign off on the new roof contract. We understand that this might impact some of our future sales or upset certain vendors, but these steps are necessary to ensure we don’t find ourselves in a bad place.

Our goal is to be a fly shop, community and a trusted brand for the next 30+ years. We’ve seen this industry struggle as of late, and we’re determined that won’t be our story. Your support today will help us move forward and invest in our future together.

Thank you for being a part of our journey. Shop today, and let’s build a stronger future together. We will sell out of things and we apologize in advance.

Ok I don't know if it actually literally "caved in," but it made for a catchy thread title.

and actually just talked with Josh a bit this morning. This is a hefty price tag, so I hope things come together. Could even be helpful if anyone knows someone who can do work all the way in Ilwaco and wants to quote a job for the type of roof below:

I may or may not have a sweet new carp reel on the way

Looks like all the Sage rods and reels have been removed from their site. Wonder if they got an angry call from farbank

Done, finally pulled the trigger on a Renzetti vise and made a small donation to the roof fund.

Nicely done Evan! Josh and Spawn are great examples of how a fly shop is a community resource. They've -spawned- some really innovative products for our local fisheries and promoted others that raise the bar, have some great youtube fly tying vids out there etc. Nice to see the PNWFF community's support. Just got done placing my own order with them for some flytying supplies.

Hope all ends well with this!

I ended up throwing in a small order.....grabbed a couple things I needed and a bunch of things I really don't, but would be fun to play around with....since I need more fly tying materials like I need a hole in my head!

neat.

I'm not in the business, so I wouldn't know, but thanks for being a downer.... (y)

Personally, I'm always happy to support local and family owned fly shops as best as I can.

Sorry, wasn't trying to call you out specifically. Poor timing on my part.

I just meant in the general "support a fly shop" way. Typically they lose money on materials as I understand it. I like to see materials before buying them so I try to direct my money towards shops that still carry tying materials anyway.

More downer; I tried really hard to think of something I needed but couldn't find anything. Money is a bit tight right now or else I'd splurge on something silly.

Wah wah wahhhhh.
