Show Us Your Humpies !!!

I did a quick 3 hr brine on my first pink (a nice buck) and smoked it and served it same day. It was really good, especially the belly meat.

I got a limit this morning so I’ll probably start freezing them to do a whole day of fish smoking later. I took a tip from @the_chemist and did not wait for a coho to show up. I am pretty sure wearing the proper apparel helped my success rate. 4 for 8 hooked. Landed the first one then lost several in a row, then it went quiet for a while. Ground it out in the sun, phew. Humpy burger. It’s what’s for dinner.

What additional ingredients are required for your humpy burger? I've never had pink salmon but it sounds like it's a protein that requires not insignificant seasoning. ;)

I wouldn’t say that, necessarily. I and the fam just like a fish burger every now and then and we actually like salmon burgers better than tuna burgers. I happen to have a lot of salmon on hand, so why not? Pink salmon has a milder, more delicate trout-like flavor than my favorite, sockeye, or most people’s favorite, Chinook. But my recipe is based off @G_smolt’s. Chop up the fish, pulse a bit of it with a hand blender to help it stick together. Add fresh ginger, garlic and basil. Onion powder, salt, pepper, couple dashes of colatura, heaping spoon of mayo.

Properly treated, they’re a fine eating fish. Or you can turn them into crab.

Today would be a good day to join these fellas in the sun at LP. Catch a pink, put it in the “shade” of some driftwood for an hour or more and it’ll get that nice soft silky texture.IMG_4683.jpeg

I think Humpies make some real good fish tacos. But you need to treat them right, time behind that log isn't helping things any.
;)

Beach scene so far…. Bring a blanket and a book and get a tan. 😉
I hit the Colman Pool today and saw a fish hit the beach before going in and one while I was taking a break from swimming, watching.
Always nice when the boats come in hot and heavy on the bankies and then park 105 yards off the beach. Furthest cast being 100 yards of course.

At low tide there, it’s a great place to restock on buzz bombs, especially on the pool intakes. I have quite a collection from when I used to fish there.

I was going to post a pink buzz bomb on the 'What's Catching You Fish' thread, but figured at this point, who isn't?
:)

This , or something like it is pretty good, probably too upscale for a humpy, as there's no sand panko, but it's good, and I like Old Bay seasoning so partial to this type of mixture.

Humpdillyicious !!!!
😀

Ya'll dun gud

Please, please don't eat humpy hens! Iced down or not they taste awful. If you have to eat humpy, bonk large bright humpy bucks from beaches far away from any fresh water estuaries. They are best brined and smoked.

Their silver and you can bonk 'em, I'm jealous. My wife would eat them. Good job folks.

That’s just like, your opinion, man.
I try to take bucks that haven’t turned at all. You don’t always get your choice. Some bright male humpies look pretty hen-like, too. I’ve been surprised by a couple fish recently.
