Server / forum slowdown issues

Checking Alerts is slow.
Hitting New Posts is slow.
Opening a PM is slow.

Sometimes 5 to 10 seconds wait time.

Sometimes the Blue bar pulses at top of screen. Sometimes just slow loading.

Not gonna be fun to figure out for sure...

I wonder if it's somehow traffic related, as in there's a bottleneck somewhere.

I have had no problems yet, not even slowdowns, but I'm on this site most often when most of you guys are fast asleep, so maybe I've got the whole bandwidth all to my lonesome.

Another thing: have any of you tried changing your DNS servers to generic ones like 8.8.8.8 (Google) or 1.1.1.1 (Cloudflare)? Worth a try to make sure your local ISP-provided DNS servers are not the culprit.

Wishing the dynamic trio all the best as they tackle the beast,
Kenneth

Was your suggestion regarding changing DNS to generic ones directed at the moderators, or forum users?

I use the cloudflare DNS servers and still have the issue but it has not been nearly as bad for me the past couple days.

Forum users.

Here in Italy the Google and Cloudflare DNS servers just work better than the local ones, so I use them as default.

Not just the fact that they're faster at resolving (I know, I know, the difference is in milliseconds, but add up all those milliseconds...), but they don't have restrictions that local DNS servers have on certain websites.

Since many of us have participated in this forum for several years with the same configurations and have not previously experienced this recent issue, and are also not experiencing slowdowns with any other websites, wouldn't it be logical that the technical problems are associated with this website...and attempting to resolve this problem by altering DNS settings just for the PNWFF issue might be ill-advised?

Maybe a shovel is the answer. Works on boats.

Having retired from a techie job, I know the only time I got much attention was when things were not going well. Techies are under-appreciated and get little or no KUDOs when things are going well. So us techies fully understand what the team is doing trying to figure this out.

So, when things are going well, remember to give a shout out to them periodically and let them know they are truly appreciated for all that they do.
