NFR RIP In Peace Cybertruck

It's not just the CT, I've seen rumors that their semi is also on the chopping block. Which is a shame because it actually seemed like it was working out.

@Evan B , I disagree about the CT failure being studied in a higher learning environment, unless it's a lesson in how not to do things, and then only as a footnote.
Right now it shares the status of other oddball vehicles in automotive history, such as the,Tucker, the Cord 810 and 812, the Chrysler AirFlow, and the Stout Scarab (widely believed to be the 1st real mini van)

I agree , just another vehicle in a long list that was not real received . No worse than so many others . You can choose any of the many ,and rag on them also , but who really cares . As said don't have to buy them .

I don't hate the cyber truck either. I just think it's ugly. If the design concept of "form follows function" was used, then Tesla designed a space age flower planter for front yards strewn with what we used to call "Detroit lawn art."

"Hate" is not the right word for my position. I used it for dramatic effect. "Befuddlement" is likely a better descriptor for me. I find the whole situation fascinating and really find it amusing that something like this went beyond the concept stage. In some ways I like that a concept vehicle finally got pushed to market, I just wish it was closer to what was initially announced vs what actually delivered.

And no, my feelings didn't materialize out of nowhere. I was once on the list:

Once it was clear what the reality of this vehicle was, I couldn't and still can't come up with a single reason to pay that kind of money and pick this over a real truck. If there's a compelling need to have an EV truck, then an F150 Lightning or Silverado EV seem to be stronger picks if you actually need to do anything truck-related.

To make a vehicle of this size, and remove a lot of the nuances that make a truck into a useful tool beyond simple transportation is just a bizarre case study to me. I think the whole CT thing will be studied in various high-level education classes going forward.

If Tesla had just built on one of their existing platforms and made a smaller/mid sized truck that way, they would have printed money.
I don't know what Elon and Tesla were thinking when this concept truck came up before production but despite its failure commercially, I think EV truck manufacturers may have learned a lot (what not to do?) from this exercise. We have a forum member who bought one, he gave me a ride in it one day. The thrust when he "stomped on it" was truly impressive. As a pickup? My short box Ram hauls more and is almost as ugly. ;-) I can't imagine MP getting the truck serviced but then my last outboard motor was an Edsel, I mean Evinrude.

Can't have a cybertruck unless you design & patent the cybertires that can haul all that battery weight for >60K miles

its really nor a truck. have seen a good amount in the pnw, and never have seen anything in the 'truck' bed.

the fellow below, drove his electric TRUCK all the way from pdx to baja - the la paz area when i ran into him.

Tesla staff weren't thinking anything but simply saying 'great idea!', as they must to a guy who surrounds himself with sycophants.

You can be sure that Musk doesn't regard this as his failure of understanding a market, but rather the failure of a market to fully understand his genius. Many oligarchs live entirely within their own bubble.

11 recalls, poor range relative to competitors like Rivian, anecdotally poor off road capabilities, not great dependability/reliability scores. They apparently go through tires at a rate extreme even by electric vehicle measures. Putting aside its appearance and the polarizing element of Tesla’s CEO, it just didn’t seem to be a very good vehicle.

In spirit of tolerance I say “you do you” ….but I admit I get an unconscious Billy Idol lip sneer reaction when I see the pepto bismol pink one owned by someone near me roll by. I can’t help thinking it is a rolling cry for help.

If only it had the compressed air rocket engines like the new roadster to allow it to fly over forest service road washout to access so hard to get places. Even with that, to ugly to drive for my tastes

In the concept stages, they sold its ability as an amphibious vehicle. Reality ended up being quite different. In fact, the first run of them couldn't even survive a car wash.

Every time a Cybertruck is sold a kitten dies...

Maintenance costs/parts of a CT are more expensive than traditional truck. In a few years past production, will parts even be available?

Another ridiculous vehicle... Yet, maybe call it a guilty pleasure for me, I think is kind of awesome. The original H2 was one of the first vehicles I found myself actively disliking. But something about this Hummer EV is just kind of cool. To me, this is more of a successful concept vehicle gone to market. If I had unlimited disposable income, I'd probably have one. A guy I coach at my gym has one and I got to experience it in person. I liked it just from reading about it online, but it's actually better than I thought.
