NFR RIP In Peace Cybertruck

Non-fishing related
A friend has one and he let me drive it a year ago or so. It’s the Beast model. It was pretty fun to drive. 0-60 mph in 2.6 seconds. It blows away many supercars. when riding with him, I had to ask him not to step on it so often because I thought that I was going to get whiplash.

Well, the good news is Elon can afford it. They could've been so cool. This Chinese truck was pretty cool looking, but they went bankrupt. If you can't sell in the US you're probably not going to sell many trucks.

I actually own 115 shares of Rivian stock. I got an unexpected correction payout when I transferred my 401k. I did a little research on some low priced stocks that might pay off someday. I went with Rivian at $13.26 per share. Still waiting. 😁
I'm just going to sit on it and see what happens. If they're even decently successful with the R2 I would think the stock would at least get back to $20 or so. It hit $22 back in December. Probably shoulda sold then! 🐻 or 🐂 ??

hose! Nowadays they’d make a cool street rod! : )Ouch….don't do that to Ey dsel…..I’d definitely rather have one of t
one of my high school buddies was gifted an Edsel when his grandfather passed away, we ribbed the hell out of him when he showed up with it....then we went for a ride in which he floored that 410 ci engine on hwy #1 until we were yelling for him to slow down...way cool was the Teletouch transmission push buttons on the steering wheel hub ...aside from the boat styling, it was an engineering marvel for it's day.

I am just grooving that @Tim L went deep to remind us that the most polarizing vehicle up until the cybertruck was the Pontiac Aztec

I first realized the world had truly changed when I was down in Silicon Valley a couple years ago visiting relatives: when we got off a crowded highway, we were the only ICE vehicle in a many car line of electric cars waiting for the light....
Shut this thread down! What with driving around in a ICE vehicle and all.... ohhh wait, nevermind, I think Tallguy means Internal Combustion Engine...

Did something similar with Arcimoto. Really liked their product. Then, they folded. Ouch.

Did this with Amazon in 2001 at the same price. Sometimes it's worth the wait.

A lot of "hate" in this thread. Personally, I wouldn't own a Cyber Truck for the same reason I won't own an EV, they don't fit my driving needs. The Cyber Truck ain't that much uglier than, say a Chevrolet Suburban or my Dodge Ram. Are trucks supposed to be "pretty"?

A local business, Heavenly Roofing, has a wrap on their Cyber Truck, the same wrap they have on all their rigs and I think it's pretty cool.

Go ahead, Evan, delete my post. ;-) Not a CT hater. (Falcon 9 Rocks!)

Same here ,kinda hard to understand the hate of something you never owned , lot of things to hate in world , to be a hater of a vehicle seems a bit silly, and childish . Seems like a waist of energy hating something that has nothing to with you .

I don't want , nor need an EV. I have ridden , and drove a CB. Powerful as hell , fun to drive . Ugly as hell !! I drive a Ram 3500 Megacab , not exactly the prettiest truck ever made , didn't buy it to be pretty , bought it to tow a big fifth wheel , gets it done very nicely . No idea why someone buys what they buy , but I do know one thing , I don't care . I don't have to buy it .

My oldest son ,a die hard Ford fan asked me when I bought the Ram truck , did you get the discount on it . I asked him what discount was that , his reply the ugly discount . :)

"Hate" is not the right word for my position. I used it for dramatic effect. "Befuddlement" is likely a better descriptor for me. I find the whole situation fascinating and really find it amusing that something like this went beyond the concept stage. In some ways I like that a concept vehicle finally got pushed to market, I just wish it was closer to what was initially announced vs what actually delivered.

And no, my feelings didn't materialize out of nowhere. I was once on the list:

Once it was clear what the reality of this vehicle was, I couldn't and still can't come up with a single reason to pay that kind of money and pick this over a real truck. If there's a compelling need to have an EV truck, then an F150 Lightning or Silverado EV seem to be stronger picks if you actually need to do anything truck-related.

To make a vehicle of this size, and remove a lot of the nuances that make a truck into a useful tool beyond simple transportation is just a bizarre case study to me. I think the whole CT thing will be studied in various high-level education classes going forward.

If Tesla had just built on one of their existing platforms and made a smaller/mid sized truck that way, they would have printed money.
