Republican Debate

My takeaway, in what I intend to be objective, non-political terms: The guy who wasn't there seems to have won. The rest of the field seems to be committing political suicide or vying for a VP bid at this point; none of them appears to have a legitimate shot at winning the primary, and I think they all know it.

Not a good-bad analysis; just reporting what I saw.

Both sides serve the same God. They are one in the same.
They tell different lies to different folks to gain the same thing. Money and power.

We are not all so different. I bet you the American public agrees on 85% of all topics, and let the other 15% divide us.
And God do we let it.

Trump already has the red side.
Biden will be dead before the election rolls around. Democrats will scramble, and I fear (or don't fear, just assume I guess) trump will be the dude again.
While I don't like him as a person and sure would never vote for him, his policies are way better than what we saw before or after him. But the fact that 30% of America loses their shit with him already makes him a net negative for the country. His fault or not, folks are allergic and it makes the nation sick.

No matter what, my taxes will go up amd services for what I pay will go down.
Good riddance to it all.

I thought it was a disgrace, as are most debates to be honest. They've never been anything of much substance, and have declined markedly over the years. While they do sell advertising on cable networks, and give pundits grist for their respective mills for a week or so, there's not much there outside of unrealistic plans that never go anywhere.
Bunch of drivel put forth by a bunch of empty suits, and a skirt too.
I missed the fly this time, would have made things more interesting for the human Q-tip.
Moderators lost control early, and let the yelling and talking over each other go on far too often, and far too long.
The worst part was when most of 'em said they'd support that fat former guy, even though he tried to overturn an election he lost last time.
Truly pathetic show of cowardice, but kudos to the two who said no way.
None of them are coming anywhere near the White House as the top of a ticket, think that is pretty clear.

Ah, it was a Wednesday. I had the grandkids, so I'm sure we were watching Sponge Bob. And getting our legos ready for the fair, which I turned in today. Important stuff. Ours are on the white trays, and the small tractor and hay truck I did in back. 20230824_114730.jpg

Gawd...I wish this country could get there rather than the 4 years of whichever party has the advantage playing touche' with the other.
Common sense has been replaced with spite.
This will be my only comment in this thread...'common sense' is a very fluid and subjective domain. Is it only correctly expressed by those who agree with your personal opinions and fundamental core beliefs?

Any number of 'common sense' beliefs once widely supported now represent indefensible societal injustice. I could name a great many examples, and most intelligent people could easily provide a host of others....

My belief? I think it's good that the majority of those that once held such odious 'common sense' beliefs now increasingly reside in graveyards (and seldom get an opportunity to vote in most elections).

The 'Good Ol' Days' are gone. Good Riddance!

Edited so as to not jump the gun, before mods chime in.

Are we able to talk about this?

I’m a progressive and I found it very interesting. Notably, that I was easily able to find significant common ground with half of the people on stage, which would seem unfathomable in our current climate. I know there are more than a few people here that would be very interested in being exposed to other people’s thoughts on the matter. We have a uniquely diverse group here. The thread will inevitably die, as always, but the cool headed folks will gain a lot of value from it before that. The mods have allowed it in the past.

Keep in mind, this was a republican debate. This thread doesn’t need to turn into a red vs. blue shit show.
Let us just not go there . Politics do nothing but divide families and friends . Just go to a river and experience peace . It does not matter if you catch or not. This is a fishing site , try to keep that in mind.

A way past this gridlock of heated polarization is to eliminate 'corporations are people' dark money and replace the electoral vote with the popular vote, allowing the best candidates to emerge locally and nationally through multi-electorate coalitions vs two political parties. And we absolutely need term limits in the Supreme Court, Senate and House.

I shut a lot of really shitty threads down during that time period. Threads that started out fine and innocent and then devolved into bottom of the barrel crap...

My 33% vote will always be NO on threads like this.
Sorry you had to go thru that.

Well I appreciate everyones perspective. Thanks for being civil. I will probably miss the next one too.

I’ll bet you lunch that I’ll moss the next every one of them… I put as much weight on campaign debates as I do their commercials.

I 100% vote against threads with topics like this, but must admit that I am super impressed with how well this is going.

Good job keeping your shit together folks! Thanks for showing us that even grownups can use the internet! Lol.

Beings as that you were part of another forum we ran where the entire forum kind of fell apart after a few such incidents, I think our wounds are still fresh.
