Rain

Hell...there hasn't even been a decent frost yet out here.

Oh no... I was threatened to never start it to early again! After the year we couldn't fish until March 19th for the opener...

But I am getting ready to start it... keep your eyes peeled... besides we need the snow pack!

Still very early in the season, but things look promising:

Sadly, all those are gone.
Man, I really miss those days of headin’ to Grandma’s and Grandpa’s place to spend Thanksgiving and Christmas breaks. πŸ™
For us it was heading up to Mukilteo to Aunt Jan and Uncle Bob's. Sometimes there'd be close to 30 people there. A massive turkey with all the good stuff, pies, cakes (& Fusae Pie). Football and pool in the basement, naps galore, a walk down to the beach. Now I'm the oldest. No more Mukilteo, they were such good times.

Great news for those who dislike the Big Dark and Gloomy.
Saturday you’ll get an additional minute of afternoon daylight. πŸ˜‚

It's already happening if you're above 40 degrees north, Saturday 7 December was the day the sun sets the earliest, even though it was 2 weeks from the winter solstice, at which time the sun will set approximately 3 minutes later. The latest sun rise will be 4 January (2025, that is).

Here on the frozen tundra there is no sunrise or sunset-just constant wall to wall gloom for weeks now. This is the darkest Thanksgiving/early December that I can remember. For weeks I have had my astronomical binoculars on a big tripod waiting to go out at night and view Jupiter and it's moons and every night I go out and check but have seen nothing. Very little snow so far either and what little is here hasn't melted due to the sub freezing and cloudy weather.

No real complaints though, the house is extremely warm and comfortable, both pantry's, both refrigerators and the freezer are well stocked and I shouldn't have to go to Costco until February. I still have to go across the pass for perishables-an 84 mile round trip to the super market-but am trying to cut down on those trips by buying some groceries locally. The down side to which is paying prices more like the North Slope of Alaska and having far less selection. There is firewood on the now enclosed front porch, a new battery powered snow blower for the deep stuff and newly installed heated mats that keep the front ramp safe for trips to the shop. In the shop a new 1500w solar power station is being installed in the Casa and a DC to DC charger will be in place before spring giving me 2500w of power in a space about the same as the interior of a mini van. Plus it is only 63 days until spring training starts-it could be worse! I'm ready for La Nina....

It definitely is a psychological boost knowing that.

And as for rain, looks like this fall is shaping up as another block with lower than usual rainfall down in Pugetopolis, despite what those long range forecasts said

We are getting some much needed rain here in the Poconos, just over an inch and a half in the last day and a half and coming down pretty good right at the moment:

We can use a lot more though, want to see that artesian well flowing again!!

Hey thanks for the heads up on Jupiter in any case. The sky is quite clear here tonight and so thinking of this comment I grabbed my 10x42 binocs to check out that big bright thing I could see from my back yard and sure enough I could make out three moons. I even grabbed the wife to check it out. Very cool.

Saw yesterday Bachelor had the peak open - first time I have seen it open before Christmas. Hope it keeps up.

We ended up with 2.5 inches of rain yesterday, 3.25 inches for the event, here in the Poconos, we need lots more though.

Cheers
