Rain

I guess you’re screwed and I’m on a gravy train with biscuit wheels in 2024 ;).
Just think how much I saved on my water bill. It is a lot!

But...
Doesn't that mean you still have to mow ?
I'm always happy when the lawn browns out and goes dormant and I can stop mowing for a bit.

It should be a holiday, like in the constitution type deal.
:)

I am an extraordinarily lucky man. My wife loves the salmon I catch and she loves to mow :).

My yard is not huge either. Most of my property is woods. Even when I do it, I don’t mind. Probably my favorite “chore”.

Honestly, I normally just let my yard go brown too but have been watering this year because it’s new lawn (due to renovations last year) and I planted some privacy bamboo this year that loves water. Right there with you most years though. To me, summer is dead lawn time in the PNW. Kind of like November- February in New England where I grew up.

If I watered my bamboo in summer I will have a mountain of pain stopping it spread....I run it very dry and it stays in its lane.

Where is Cliff Mass when we need him the most????

The August rain and cool-down has really greened things up, and the freshet is supporting streamflows around the westside Cascades right when they really need it. Pretty darn nice out there. Reminds me of PNW summers of 20 years ago!

Several years ago I put in some bamboo culms I was given for a privacy screen. As you probably know containing it is a must. Even with plastic barrier liner I had escapees. The roots got so tight it split the barrier in places and found its way out at the overlapped seam.
I'm trying to remove it years later and it's going to be a project to say the least!
Also a NE transplant from the north shore MA.
How about you?

I want it to spread a bit and it did kick up 10 new shoots. It’s also a clumping variety. I have some space to fill though.
I wish I understood the difference between clumping and non before I put mine in. Mine is not. It's yellow groove I believe. I have 20 ft stalks! Beautiful... But!

Lol

Yellow groove is definitely a runner, and super aggressive grower up to 25' tall...
You have my sympathy trying to contain that plant.

When are we going to get some significant rain? I'm starting to Freak Out over this - I need to get wet from the sky, bust thru some brush and be soaked in 50', be camped out on a river for a few days and have cycled thru all my clothes and everything is damp, smells like wet dog and/or smoke from a smoldering ass campfire. Have pruned up hands and line cracked fingers. Look into a river and have only 2-3 feet of visibility instead of gin clear, fish a rising river, a river that's to high - just because you're already there and a dropping and clearing river. I just looked at the 10 day for the west end and No Real Rain!
WTF Man! Ughhhh.

It is raining right now in western WA. Start camping

Ha - I noticed it started drizzling right after I wrote that, funny stuff. I'm just wanting to fish some of those rivers with some more water than in the hundreds for CFS and getting withdrawals. Most everywhere is low, low, low unless it's a tailwater, I'll just have to practice acceptance and patience for at least a couple more weeks, seems like the bone dry summer just won't end but maybe I'm mis-remembering the timing and duration or just older and crotchety.
