Puget Sound

I didn’t even realize it was possible anymore to catch fish with anything but a loop knot. I mean, unless yer just yankin’ our chains.

Well, actually lazy. I cycled through a number of flies casting at those lock jawed bastards and was conserving leader material so I did not have to change it.

But yes, you can indeed still catch fish with an improved clinch…

People that use jig head hooks, use a clinch knot on the back (front?) of the eye loop, which turns their fly into a balanced fly for stillwater use…

Nice cutts fellas

So these clear creatures could kinda swim
Much more than a jelly
Horrible photo
About the size of a quarter
any ideas?
Thanks

I’ve been cooped up for the past week with the crud so needed to get out. Frost and 37° when I started. 🤩
Headed south to look for cutts. Ended up bringing a dozen to hand. Lost one jumbo. When they take line out of your basket, those are the ones you’d like to shake hands with.
A few this size, but most were smaller.

Landed a jack coho.

Then went 1 for 3 on its big brothers and sisters.

A few small ones to hand this morning and one better one unbuttoned along with some missed grabs, chases and swirls. After being very frustrated yesterday over two sessions, morning and evening with no connections over active fish and a slew of pattern changes today i tried a couple patterns i tied last year from Les Johnsons book, old school patterns, Blair's Baiter and Ferguson's Green and Silver, tied small and sparse. Both worked until i lost them on lazy backcasts, only had one of each. Fun morning.20251016_074850.jpg

When scouting another chumster spot today and found a few players. 2-3 in two hours. Not in thick but enough to make it worth the trip. The bright one gave me one of the better chum fights I’ve had in a while. Some zippy coho like runs and even a few jumps.

Hit the sound with @Kfish in his boat looking for chum today and maybe an SRC. Hooked some chum but tough landing in strong current. Not the end of the world, they were all going back, and the last few feet getting a chum in the net is the most painful and dangerous to rods anyway. Should have hooked way more than we did considering the number of fish we hit our flies in front of but they just weren’t nippy on the tide we were fishing. Fun morning on the water regardless. Ended up with an early fall Sound trifecta though the SRC caught were on the small side.

Last adult salty coho of 2025…?
