Puget Sound

Took a half day and fished a few hours this afternoon in a different MA. I must have made some fantastic, unknown offering to the fish gods because I was blessed with another beauty. This time a hen. My second 10+lb fish in two days. This fish was a quarter inch longer but about an inch less in girth then the one I got yesterday.

Caught another 3-4 lbr that looks small in comparison.

What fly are these beasts eating??

Not to be too nosy, but what fly, what beach and what rock did you stand on?
What fly line, what leader length, what tippet, how fast were you stripping and it was it steady or erratic, if erratic what song does the rhythm most resemble, what did you have for breakfast and how were you holding your mouth when the fish hit?

Report from the last two days. Fished gear mostly Saturday. Went…1-10 across two anglers. A fellow board member I won’t name because we were trolling flies to start on divers and I’m not sure how open he is about his dirtbaggery 🤣. The plan was to get a couple in the cooler early then go fly fish but the fish gods are a finicky bunch and they had other plans. They let us get 6 of the 10 hooked boat side before having them spit the hook so we could see the solid coho we lost. Hey also let us land a 3 lbr which we released because, well, the bite has to stay hot….no??

Edit - forgot to mention the cool Orca encounter we had. Running to a new spot we noticed a ferry was stopped dead in the middle of the sound…odd. What happened or what did they see?? Sure enough, a pod of whales headed right off our port side. Wait there’s also some coming down the other side as well. Pretty good sized pod. We stopped the boat and let them do their thing. I’d say at least 8-10 individuals, some cool breaching, etc.

Today hit an beach with @Kfish and it was slow. Fished the same beach for 8.5 hours and went 2-4 with two wild 4-5 lbrs. A couple other plucks from good fish (based on boil) as well.

Bad ju ju to release first legal fish! :ROFLMAO:

Yesterday was so still, at least for a while, the fishing was little slow, still fun though, paddling on glass is always pretty fun, frankly

then the winds picked up, higher than forecast, ended up paddling a different way back with a little portage as well

Always interesting to see big trees right on the salt line....

My success rate with divers is probably similar to that! They are fish losing machines.

Did a trolling day yesterday, ran a downrigger on one side and a fly 60’ back on the surface on the other. Was 2 for 5 hits on the downrigger, 3 for 4 on the fly.

What time of day were you getting hits on the fly?

Fished for about 4-5 hours this morning across 3 different beaches. Fished the first beach for about 2-3 hours and only saw one keeper sized coho caught (3-4lbs) among about 10-15 anglers. Lots of 2-4” herring hanging around. Was pretty surprised at how slow it was. I’m hoping the coho come in strong the next two weeks but I feel like area 9 is going to close when things start getting good. I guess we’ll see 🤷‍♂️
