Puget Sound

Had to run south for some family business so fished from 7:00 until 10:00. Quite a few fry around and fish attacking them. Catching would have been better had the water moved more.

Man I wish I didn't have to trailer the boat for about 90 minutes to get to the canal.

Interesting how 2 days makes a big differences. Went 2-4 Friday but a lot more fish showing themselves today. Ended up being very nice day out on the water, even with rain pelting the fascia at 30 knots on the drive back to the launch. Also, yay for technology. Last night I changed batteries on my bow mount controller since they were in the red. Tested it and all was good before putting the controller back in the boat last night. This morning dead. Ran back to the dock and went and bought more batteries…still dead. Then Lou remembers…” I think we can run it from an app on a phone”. Wouldn’t say it saved the day but fishing from a boat for SRC without a bow mount is painful for me now….ha. I’m spoiled.

Amazing how aggressive and how hard above their weight our local fight SRC fight.

Shrimp flies crushed it again today. Even with suspected fry in the mix. These flies really get it done for SRC. This one in particular for me today.

The Coastal Cutthroat Coalition is currently monitoring cutthroat movements in the straits. Provided the weather is favorable for boating, I’d guess many of the creeks that dump into the straits have populations of late entry fish that would provide opportunities for fishing without having to drive to the canal.
The west side of northern MA 9 will also fish very similar to the canal.

Thanks. I have poked around down there but it still close to an hour to a boat ramp. Guess I am at the stage where I would like to be on the water in 10 minutes, fish for 2-3 hours if just fishing for trout and not deal with 2-3 hours of dragging my boat on 101. There are some spots up here but you really have to choose your days in terms of weather and wind.

I get it. I live a 5 minute walk from a beach but end up driving an hour and forty five minutes to my favorite beach on the canal. The drive in the morning isn’t bad, but the drive home on 5 can be brutal at times even without a boat.
Wind and weather are definitely a big factor where you are located.

I took the day off to go fishing. 😉😂
Fun day with good chum fry action. Pearl diamond braid body, bronze pearl Kreelex flash underwing, two black & white barred centipede rubber legs, tan arctic goat wing and peacock and root beer krystal flash over the wing. Also got a rezzie coho. Area 10 is heating up.
A few pics from today.

A 3 spotter!

Been without power for a couple days so decided to burn some vacation time and fish today versus trying to use my phone as a hotspot like every other work from homer on Bainbridge. Besides, I have a lot to burn this year. My wife started a new job and my company reduced how much vacation time you can carry over so this seemed like as good a time as any. Fishing was solid. Got a late start getting my wife set up to work with the Jackery unit and her hotspot. Got on the water at slack and there was not much going on. Got a few on a shrimp at one spot but the fishing picked quite a bit once the tide started coming in a bit and a slight breeze picked up. Multiple pods of fish attacking fry. A dozen or so landed. Multiple bumps and a few lost fish.

This fly was by far the most effective today.
