Prescription Sunglasses

Get yourself the new SMITH Boomtowns. You'll be irresistible

I was talking about those dorky, tactical, fishing glasses. Can you even get prescription lenses for those Smith glasses? I imagine there would be a lot of distortion, due to the curve. As far as distortion goes, aviators and wayfarers are as good as it gets; they're both very flat.

Smith here...can't go wrong & half the price of those damn Costas...

Does Costco do the eye exam, too?
Yes, if the Costco you go to has a separate optometrist office. There is one at the 4th Ave Costco in Seattle.
I have 3 pairs of prescription sunglasses. The amber color works best for me while fishing.

I guess as I am nearing 40 my eyes have decided they don't like my contacts as much...

Never really thought about prescription sunglasses but am now in the market. What does everyone use?

I'm a little overwhelmed with costs and the different coatings/lens tints. Help! 😁
I had cataract surgery a few years ago but they didn’t correct my astigmatism. For the first few years, I didn’t wear glasses or contacts but finally realized my vision was not optimal, so I went back to contacts. They are a very minor correction and I buy the daily wear lenses from Costco. The contacts are very comfortable and I toss them at the end of the day. Since I’m turning 65 in a couple of weeks, in a few years I will probably reach the point where I don’t want to bother with them, so I’m interested in this thread.

The mirror coating is pure aesthetics
The mirror coating reflects light and can provide better UV protection and a brighter field of view than tinted lenses alone. I had a pair of mountaineering - skiing sunglasses that were photo amber to brown photochromic lens with a double mirror gradient; a gradual thining of the coating to zero in the middle. They worked great for snow.

The double mirror gradient mountaineering ski glasses-goggles coatings have generally been replaced by colored mirror coatings. The color of the mirror is largely driven by fashion and actually not as important as the tint.

I like smith a lot. The copper mirror lenses are my go to lens for just about any light condition on freshwater in the PNW. Make sure you try on frames and find the one that works for you before you commit to having RX lenses made.

I should do the same, i got eyeglasses 5 years ago and am still running non prescription sunglasses.

I like Wiley X. My son in the Army turned me on to them, and I’ve got polarized progressive lenses in mine. Hope my prescription doesn’t change dramatically for a while because I really like them.

That's one model I'm looking at.

Has anyone ordered through sportrx online? They have a nice discount for being a nurse.

Macho Man Savage inspired!

I can’t remember the online source you suggested a couple years ago. They were great to work with, sent five pairs of frames for fit/comfortability befI bought mt prescription bifocals. Very reasonable prices

They really are great to work with. Fantastic customer service.
I have two pairs now. They sent a dozen pairs of frames to try on to make sure they fit my fat head. Mine were sub $200 out the door. @Wolverine turned me on to them.
