Almost certainly true, but here's the way I look at it. John felt she was his true love and could do no wrong; are we not sometimes also willing to overlook the deficiencies of our loves? You and I may not have handled it the same way, but my respect for John Lennon allows me to give it a past. Were John not to have met Yoko, who knows how he may have progressed? He may have Syd Barrett'ed out in a year or two; he was well on the way immediately following Sgt Pepper/Magical Mystery Tour.Fact: nobody would even know who the hell Yoko is if it weren't for John.
And at the time, Yoko was making a name for herself as an artist on her own before she met John. But if you watch the recent Beatles documentary, you can see how professional he really was, and I think Yoko had something to do with getting his head back into the game. That's just me.
