Official 2025 CARP (and Capr) thread

I mean, that's what they were originally brought over for....

Found some gold....

Capr ftw.

Was tough today. Only got two eats but they were back to back. Literally pulled the fly out of the mouth of a fish after a ten second fight and plopped it down right on this one's dinner platter. But this was four hours of fishing. Tough to spot and all the other ones we tried all gave the middle fin.

Back at it today. Fished further up my section of river for a morning full of shad. Caught a pile of those then switched gears mid morning to bass, carp and capr. After one smallmouth, things died for us.

The only carps we saw all day were all still in spawning mode. Need probably another week or so for them to settle into the summer routine.

How's that push pole workin' for you? (I bet far better than my wood dowel 😊)

Nice smallie! Boat is looking good too.
Yeah, I managed to do pretty well on Saturday at a pond upriver only because it didn't have as many spawners. Just got lucky with that.

Today was a different story. I tried a couple new spots sort of mid-gorge and only got 2. Both spots had too many spawners!
And those 2 were both what I would call "squadron males". Basically the smaller guys that have been left out of the spawn party. They were acting hungry, horny and confused all at the same time. They would come marching by 3 or 4 at a time, without a female, and usually 1 was mad or hungry enough to at least take a look. It was pretty much chaos.

The real chaos is when the 1st one ran so fast he yanked out all my free line into a knot. Somehow, it didn't break him off or pull my rod tip off. Of course, when it came time to land him (after a nice run into the backing!) I had to hand line him in. :ROFLMAO: Never done that before.
I'll see if the video is good enough to post.

I’ve got a local couple places I’ve seen carp that I intend to check out. Do you think spawning in the Puget Sound area will be over by the end of this month?
I’ve only targeted them in EWA.

I am probably off base since my experience with carp is limited to CWA/EWA but the 4th of July has been prime time - out of spawn and at times "hungry" as if all of carp going off feed to spawn caught up.

Good luck/Pat

Familiar with south central/south east WA and while I can no longer chase them, the spawn is well over and fish are feeding.

We need a carp, or capr, biologist. Hey @Smalma any idea on western Washington carp spawning time? My intel for Lake Tapps tells me it's over, but I can't confirm that since I've given up on them for the time being. Call it a mental health break. 😁
