Eventually things will be all streaming...

Agreed. But when will we be able to just buy the channels we want? I do not need 170 channels (which my current DirecTV package has). With 5 people in our house, we only watch about a total of 30 channels (tops).

I do agree on that as far as 170 channels , no real idea how many we actually watch , but 30 sure sounds like it would be close .

Oh I don't know how it will wind up...but streaming is the future.
Likely be whatever they can make the most money from, that is my guess.
You can buy a lot of stand alone packages already, but given how the NFL parcels out rights to telecasts, that means streaming apps on 3 networks and Prime.
NFL knows the majority follows their team weekly, and a significant minority watches all the games they can and so getting the majority to buy all the other games is the goal.
Never leave a dollar on the table...

That Disney/Direct thing has been going on for a few years. It's not getting resolved anytime soon...gotta pay to play.

That's why I quit Direct 3-4 years ago now...
Not sure what you are referring to , but it’s been recently that I no longer have the ESPN channels, which is the only ones I care about .

You must be watching TV on an antenna. 😄
Lol
I stream
No use for a DVR, and outside of football watch about zero TV, been that way for over 20 years.
I just ignore the ads, can't remember paying attention to any of them...works with humans too.
😁

I certainly hope not as far as streaming everything, I like Netflix , and similar , but live Sports , no

We all march to a different drummer . 😄

I used to get a few pirated sports events, but with so many malicious streaming sites, just choose not to.
Besides, it's stealing in the end, and so just don't need that.
I can go out and watch a game if I really want to see one, but that involves other humans....
Ugh...
Think I'll just pay for streaming.
🤣

I'm referring to the overall Direct/Disney "negotiations"...

Maybe they cut off ESPN more recently as the last straw, I dunno....haven't used Direct for several years because I couldn't get local plus they kept cutting things while raising costs.

I'm now a streamer because I can pick and choose far easier than any actual cable/dish service. Live sports are great streamed as long as you have semi-decent internet service...it IS a constant game of cancel this, sign up for that, cancel that....rinse and repeat as necessary.

All media will be streamed just as soon as technology allows it to be, I read somewhere its going to be cheaper in the long run with better profit margins, especially when the high speed lines and associated infrastructure are paid for by someone else...
;)

My cheater box has 1682 channels of shit to choose from, and over 11,000 movies. If there's a sporting event being aired, I can find it.
I did check out NFL Network and the red zone. Kinda cheesy to just watch highlights, but a fantasy football guy probably loves that shit.

No need for cable tv. Pay for a Wi-Fi signal.

Gotta wonder if these streaming services are gaining customers or if the nfl is losing fans. I know which camp I fall into. Frankly the quest to make further riches for billionaires (games in Brazil?) is getting a bit nauseating.
NFL isn't losing fans...They're growing faster than any of the major sports....

MLB? now they might be losing fans....

Yes , just recently on the ESPN channels . :( The key word is decent internet, I spend a good portion of the summer in Montana with my fifth wheel , and just setup a satellite dish , and I’m
done , got all the TV I need , well actually for my wife while I’m fishing . :) But as said I like to record , for a number of reasons , but the biggest one is the mindless commercials. Sure I don’t have to watch them , which I don’t , but still have to wait for them to get over , and with commercials every injury on the field , timeouts , challenges etc , big reason we have 3 hour football games . So I fast forward between plays , plus the fact I don’t have listen to Aikman take 5 minutes to explain the play we all just watched . :D Lot to be said about being able to record sports .

I would think it’s still a ways off .

Probably, but it's coming.
The current build out if high speed internet to rural areas is happening fast in many places.
Even out here where I am, the fiber network installed this spring is 1 gig both ways.
Know a lot of folks dropping the satellite providers and moving to streaming.
Much like the airwaves auctioning that was done in the 90's, it sets the table for new tech delivered direct to consumers.

I live in the suburbs just outside of Renton and DirecTV was a savior for the last 25 years. Streaming was out of the question because it was only DSL that would drop its signal 30 to 40 times per hour - sometimes for a minute or longer. It was $25k to bring in cable from the street (about 700'). T-Mobile started to provide internet service but was poor at best. Same with Verizon. Both were only 4g at best. Finally AT&T started to provide 5g service about a year ago. The tower is 1000 feet away. It works fantastic! So streaming is an option now. I looked at all the different packages/providers to see if I could replace DirecTV and save some money. Nope. So I called DirecTV and asked for a discount since I was approaching 25 years with them. They reduced the package price $50/month! That covers what I pay AT&T for great internet.

Happy camper now!

I have been getting the offers to sign up , but wow ! if I am understanding the price ? At first it was like $150 per month for four months , the latest offer was down to around $100 . Pretty expensive ,plus their regular package for watching TV is no bargain , plus I am no fan of strictly streaming . Also Peacock is horrible on their coverage . Direct Tv is no bargain either on their football package .
The quality of the picture on Peacock during the live stream left a lot to be desired…
