Not trout lake report

Here’s a PSA. Targeting warmwater fish is fun.
It only took me 30 years of driving by this lake to finally stop there, and figure that outπŸ˜‚.
If you haven’t tried it, you should.
It’s simple. A white jig leech a few feet under an indicator is all you need to catch multiple species.

I went yesterday knowing trout fishing would be poor and looking forward to going for bluegill. Caught a bunch of them plus a few nice bass. I like stripping wet flies for them, because the tug is the drug. A Carey special and a grey micro leech worked best..Welcome to the club.

Way to go, and welcome to the PNWFF Bass Club!

I hit a small lake for LM the other day, to test out some new patterns. The water temp was 80F.
Positive feedback with a few blowups in the lily pads, then tried out in open water with a bugger to see if they had moved deeper or if any crappie were around... but I was hooking up with good sized trout on every cast. I even got one in the weeds with a bass popper 🀨 Didn't really want pre-cooked trout, though, so I packed it in for the day.

Put it on my list for this fall, I guess!

Heck yes.
Indicator and white jig…popper-dropper could be just the ticket…and then you may become enamored with just the popper and where it can be casted without its little dangly passenger…

This video motivated me to hit the lake again recently-

For whatever reason I’m feeling the need to get a glitterflake paint job and upgrade my 55# thrust Minn Kota to a 300 hp Mercury, on my drift boat.πŸ˜‚

I also caught a few other fish.

I caught the bass (and Crappie) on bait fish jig leeches under an indicator.

Fished there a couple weeks ago and Austin had great fun .. the warm water grand slam! (but no bass) We’ll try it again under an indicator soon.

@Paul_ those are some great fish and looks like a lot of fun!
@Pez Vela how cool to fish with your(?) kid like that! Something for me to aspire to with mine. Is that a bamboo rod Austin is using?

I had to laugh a little at the concept in the video: float and fly, a new technique for bass! lol maybe things percolate slowly from east to west but there are old Fly Fisherman magazine articles from decades ago describing this technique. So innovative! Put a weighted fly under a bobbercator/float! πŸ˜‰

Yup…the boy is my 9 year old grandson, and I got him hooked on fly fishing 3-4 years ago. And yes.. that’s a bamboo fly rod I made for him on a 4-5wt blank that I fast talked Glenn Bracket out of. Great fun to fish with, and sorry to see him go back to school Tuesday. (although he’s been known to skip school a day or two when the fishing is reported good!)
