Munch food/nut mixes

Stonedfish got me thinking with his nut snack options and a cold beer. There’s a lot of prepackaged healthy snack options (supposedly???) from certain places like Costco and joes and etc. do any of you make your own trail mix. I
Like to make my own. But as I say this I’m also buying many of my mixing ingredients from the above mentioned stores. For a while I was doing pumpkin seed and raw almonds. Simple but boring. Then I added dried cranberries and pistachios to it. Yep better. I have done many mixes but just curious about some out there.

Walnuts and almonds are almost a must for now. Good for you but also filling. I
Like pumpkin seeds but fewer is better. Hate having 100 little bird type seeds at end of snack.

So what are some of your
Homemade mixes? Or prepackaged snacks and not the Costco omega 3 tri
Packs. I have those. Not bad but to many seeds.

I go with a simple mix based on what's around. Nuts, usually peanuts but also pecans, cashews and others when we have them, seeds such as sunflower, some raisins, the kids like the golden ones (I like those cran rasins a lot), and some m&m's, for a basic start. When I was racing I made my own granola of oats, seeds and honey, and would eat it all day, but I needed about 7000 calories then. I just used online recipes.

Almonds, dried cherries, pecans, golden raisins, hemp seeds, dates, walnuts, banana chips .

At least that was in this weeks lunch bag.
I am told next week will be similar, which I am very OK with.

Ah. Yes. I did banana chips for a while
And didn’t. I need to get back to that. They were good and gave a sweet healthy punch to the mix. Doh!!! Apple chips too. Funny you get removed from food items for a period of time your forget about them. Thank you!!!!!

Not sure where your Costco is? But they carry different things at different houses. I can go with out the MM’s or other chocolate products. Maybe your
Costco has one Im not familiar with?
Or I have not seen it????

Hey Porter, I just get the Kirkland Signature Trail Mix. It does have M&M's in it.

I notice nobody mentioned dried fruit. I like to add it when I can get some plain dried stuff at andy's, but I seem to recall bad stuff about preservatives in a lot of it.

Dehydrating is easy...
We eat dried cherries year round, great snack food.

All nuts and dried fruits are delicious and packed with energy.

That said, beware. Trail mix is definitely for the trail (NOT the couch). Besides being delicious, nuts and dried fruits are exceptionally caloric, and if you aren't burning those calories....

Like many here, I adore dried cranberries, but if you look at the sugar (and calorie) content in those things, you'll be shocked. The sugar content makes a ton of sense to anyone who's ever tasted a raw cranberry, but don't eat too many of those tasty little buggers (like I always do), lest ye turn a healthy snack into a sugar binge.

I think my go-tos are probably almonds and bananas (fresh ones; I love the fried chips, but...). Dates are another sugary delight (particularly with pecans), but again, beware. And oh... dried mangoes... mmmmm....

Yeah. Lots of bad stuff out there. Trying to eliminate the chocolate element. It’s funny… just for a few posts I have new ideas and confident ones. Thanks.

I think due to covid and not needing snacks I lost touch a bit. But have ideas now that are more nut based with some seeds and certain dried fruit. Thanks

We buy fresh fruit in bulk when it's in season and cheap, then process it for long term storage and use.
Tomorrow picking up 40# of Nectarines for 50 bucks, came over from Yakima
Some will be dehydrated, some frozen, some eaten tomorrow...

The various fruits get put into breakfast muffins along with nuts and such year round, soon apples will be on the market, so will be doing those up too...
:)
