But I like to think we played a part in this πŸ˜‚

Noticed another forum I participate in that's owned by them has essentially ceased all moderation or any other real function despite hundreds to thousands of posts per day. Wonder if they're not long for this world.

Their current, heavy investment in AI will solve all their issues.

Evan, not bad but I'd be really impressed if you had a boat load of shares and dumped them πŸ˜‰

I don’t think it’s in poor taste at all. They fucked up more than one good thing for a lotta people. Free Market Capitalism is supposed to weed out the weaklings; you wanted it, well ya got it.

Nice.

I hope it was a factor! They ruined a pretty pure and original thing that many of us had enjoyed and benefitted from for a long time.

The choice you all made to create this forum is bright spot in a world of bullshit that is the past several years.

Posting this is not in bad taste; it is posting the truth.

VS left a bad taste in my mouth as well as in my mind. VS purchase (takeover) and changing the rules on ownership of pictures without notice sucked. VS alienated almost the entire, long-term membership (family) in one fell swoop overnight. VS believes bigger is better and more is also better.

See where that got them...

Well we appreciate everyone's support in this crazy idea we cooked up literally overnight back then. A few years in and we're still cookin.

They took over popupportal.com in the same fashion WFF was overtaken. Warned the other users about the new owners, then went in and deleted our account. Not sure it helped. πŸ€”

Just dug lightly for dirt, not seeing it:

There is no public information indicating that Vertical Scope is under investigation by the SEC or FCC. The FCC is a regulatory body that oversees communications, while the SEC deals with securities. Investigations are publicly announced, and no such investigation into Vertical Scope is reported.

also

Vertical Scope: Vertical Scope LLC, a digital media company, is not a publicly traded company and is not listed as being under investigation by either regulatory agency.

However, this link will put you onto a forum with a whole lot that's contradictory to the quick search results I posted above. ( yeah, I really don't like these guys) read through it carefully. @JS My thoughts exactly

Verticalscope is Canadian so I'm not sure the SEC or FCC would be involved at all here.

I'm not sure about IFish, but VS took over Washington Fly Fishing, Spey Pages, and a bicycling forum that are mere shadows of their former selves. Coincidence, or they really have a knack for screwing things up.

Gamefishin used to be a popular, local site with lots of members. The last new post there was over a month ago.
With that little of activity, there must me some financial benefit to them for keeping it up on the web.

Gamefishin'.....

The value for vscope is selling the content (posts) to companies for use in LLM training for AI...

Gamefishin was very slow 10 years ago, I think itwas down to a handful of folks, just like PP is now. Bruce sold it to someone, it seemed to decline after that. After Divider and a few others left, the place was never the same.

The Golden Age of forums is past I guess.
