March Madness '26

I'm just here for the hindsight is 20/20 analysis....should be good. Especially after this weekend.

😆

Zags haven't been able to hit 3s all season, but at least they were good from the stripe.

This is going to be the worst 3pt shooting team Mark Few has ever had, which followed his previous worse (last year).

Anacortes' own Davis Fogle is the freshman star, but Ellensburg's Steele Venters (recruited as a 3pt shooter) has been relegated to DEEP on the bench.

My Big 10 bias already has my bracket in shambles... I am super happy for Fred Hoiberg and Nebraska getting their first ever tourney win yesterday.

I watched Texas a few times this season - mainly because a Purdue kid that I liked transferred there. Their offense isn't horrible (top 20) but their defense is really bad. It is March but if the Zag's bring their A game, they should be fine.

Thank God for Sirius XM radio…got to listen to several games while driving from Mercer Island WA to Twin Falls ID…Santa Clara pur a scare into the Kentucky blue bloods…

SC was robbed! Their coach was calling for a TO which was unnoticed, and the clock didn't start for a second on the inbounds. Kinda a big deal when you only have 2.4 seconds to score 3 points.

That was rough. However... go watch the last 10 seconds again.
1- Great shot by Graves
2- His teammates started celebrating even though there were 2.4 seconds left. In college hoops, the clock stops from the time it's through the hoop until the person that receives the inbounds touches it. Clock work looks correct to me.
ALL 3 guards did NOT guard anyone. We're talking NOBODY!
3- Sendek was late AND chased the wrong ref. The dude was already, rightfully, running away from the SC bench to get ready for the UK shot attempt. Coach should have been ready sooner and/or run to the baseline ref.

I was pulling for SC the whole way, but it just showed their lack of experience winning in this tourney. Play to the whistle and play to the buzzer. Heartbreaker for sure. Also an instant classic.

When the SC player's shot was blocked and the Kentucky player snagged it and then threw it to a teammate downcourt, it looked like he traveled. I know the announcers brought that up and looked at play again. It was hard to understand them. Did they think he traveled or did it just look awkward?

Yeah, looked like a travel, but they'll never call that one. I mean, a scramble for the ball, after a great blocked shot (terrible decision to shoot it) and he passes it ahead. Very few refs are gonna call that in a OT game no matter what teams and time of year.

Here's an obscure stat from round one: only 7 times in the history of the tournament that the 13-14-15 seed teams have gone winless and now it’s happened 2 years in a row. Obviously NIL and the transfer portal has a lot to do with this. As soon as a guy at Prairie View, Furman, or some other low/mid major blows up, he’s gone. Will it get back to the craziness of Madness or is this the new norm?

New norm.

See a good-to-great (even relative to competition) player at a low or mid major?

Well next year you'll see him playing for a P4 school.

See a good overlooked freshman/recruit at a low or mid major?

Same thing...

There's no way a smaller program is ever going to get established moving forward - if they ever luck out with a good core of 2-4 players, that core is gone in 6 months.

Well, I was worried about this scenario. Longhorns shot a bunch of layups, which helped them shoot 52% from the field. Nearly impossible to beat a team that shoots that well if you don't make 3s. And Zags haven't made 3s all year. Disappointment after winning 30 games, but onto next year!

No outside shooting at all…i was sorry to see them leave….

This team wasn’t good enough without Huff.
They weren't good enough to be a F4 team even with Huff.

Without him they were reduced to a very predictable offense (try and feed Ike without a great PG to manipulate the defense) and then pick up some junk opportunistic points along the way.

Warley was a good player - 4 other tranfers with experience and/or accolades all underperformed.

I'm rooting for Kelvin Sampson and Houston, or else Tommy Lloyd and AZ.

That High Point game with Arkansas was so entertaining. Those two guards trading blows all night long was fun to watch.

I believe really good interior play can win you a lot of regular season games but the tournament is all about guard play. The teams with the best guards tend to win the most games in the tournament.

A lot of houses are being built with all the bricks in the St. John's/Kansas game....sheesh, this is a tough watch.
