SFR Legit PNW Hurricane on the way

Sorta fishing-related
I dislike the neighbors birch trees very much. Tonight the little fleur-du-lis lookin’ flakey things are really flying everywhere. It’s a major hatch. Maybe it’s good to get most of them down all at once. There’s always some kind of crap coming off of those darn trees.

Most of the outages are near I-90. Over 400 of them according to PSE app/map.

So far you are lucky...
Still no wind here to speak of, but the power went out abruptly at 7pm.

I think we’re in a weird “wind shadow”, in the lee side of Pitcher mountain, but if we were to venture out a mile or two north or south we’d be in really windy conditions.

I don’t really feel like going out and hooking up the generator so will just go to bed and fire it up in the morning. I’ve a feeling we’ll be without power for a while this time!

Power went out here in Mill Creek/Lynnwood at 7pm. It's really windy. We're fine- I now realize that I have 5-7 different ways to charge a cell phone (what with the portable jump starters and all).

The water comes out of the faucet and the gas stove works with a lighter. I think we are on gravity feed city water. When we were on a well, I'd always fill the tub when the power might go out so we could flush the toilets. Old habits die hard; I just filled the tub in case there is a city pump somewhere that stops working.

My neighbor is all lit up with his fancy generator.

Last I checked the PSE outage map it said 272,000 customers with no power as of 8:11pm, then the PSE website stopped working. Seattle city light outage map was out as well for a while, as of 8:30pm it says 76,000 customers out. Lost Internet, lights come and go.

9:30PM update, almost half a million customers with no power in WA...

Yep, lots of outages. One tree down across the road so far and hearing others snap in the park. Estimate for power to come back on at my place is currently 4:27 tomorrow afternoon.

Up to 288,000+ now according to the PSE app on my phone. The outage map is wild, just solid all up and down the east side

Just want to plug solar panels and battery banks for when the dust settles. Surprisingly effective and affordable in Western Washington. With federal rebates and all the incentives I’m out of pocket only $158 (first monthly payment) on the $24,000 system we had installed about 10 years ago.

$158 and I haven’t paid a power bill since. Only one outage two years ago (system failed to switch to battery bank due to essentially a bad breaker) and we get to have lights and heat while our neighbors are cold and dark, and we don’t have to feed or listen to a generator.

I was at least expecting the lights to flicker, something to let me know that mother nature is still out there.
No storm here, just tranquility.

The Bomb Cyclone was a meh event here. Our big wind chimes played a short tune from to time but my weather station anemometer peaked at only 5 mph, and Windy at 7 mph a little after 6 PM

It's an LUTRAGRE that they haven't built a thing to block the wind!!!! They need to INSTALL a barrier with the sheer strength to WITHOLD the winds!!!!! Utterly an OUTRAGE that they haven't CONSTRUCTED a barrier yet!!!!!

Someone tell them to hurry up so by the team I need it it in IN USE!!

I got one of those now, they are messy. And three mature maples. Been blowing about 35 with gusts to 50 since 6 yesterday so all the leaves are piled deep against the north fence, except the 3' pile at the front door. Dog wouldn't go out so we went out back. Blowing so hard she peed on her feet! Hate it when that happens.

Enumclaw was fun. Wind started around noon. Lights flickered on an off from 5pm on. Lost power fully around 10pm, expect it to be out for a while with what I saw driving to work this morning. Fences gone, trees down, traffic signs gone, all the traffic lights are out (not flashing). School for the kids is delayed two hours, I am expecting it to be cancelled.

There has been a strong lightning storm going on in mid/east Grays Harbor County for a good while this a.m. Almost a constant roar towards the foothills of the Olympics with rolling flashes. I see occasional flashes to the south of the harbor as well.

Pretty ominous yet no rain or wind to match the feel. Yet?

I've priced this out a few times, and my monthly payment on the system for my house would be $300+, and I'd still have some kind of power bill most likely. I want solar, I just can't figure out a way to have the numbers make sense yet.

That sucks. I don’t know why many utility districts don’t subsidize it more. For every kilowatt that gets to a residential customer, they have to produce 2 because of loss during transmission. When you generate your own (ex solar) you become a power station they don’t have to build and your excess powet goes to your neighbors—which the utility district still charges them for.

Some time ago there were several (and still see occasional) news stories about homeowners having their insurance canceled and unable to buy new policies after their insurance provider found out they had installed solar arrays with storage batteries. Does a system create a hazard-weaken the structure, become damaged... requiring insurance to pay for repairs to the structure or system?
