NFR Lawn Mowers

Non-fishing related
Greenworks here for nearly 10 years of durability and dependability. Upside: no gas, low/no maintenance. Down Side: Batteries are expensive to replace

About an acre and a half of lawn here…not enough beer at the store for me. Currently using a Kubota zero turn. It has a Kawasaki twin for power. Easily the best mower I have owned.

Last rider I had had a Briggs and Stratton engine. It basically blew up a few days after the warranty ran out. Briggs and Stratton told me to pound sand when I asked for help. Kinda sad when a company that shares your last name won’t stand behind their products. I will never buy anything powered by a Briggs and Stratton motor again.
Push mowers don't blow up after their warranty runs out.

Checkmate.

I will never have experience to comment one way or the other. To much lawn, to little time.

I rebuilt the piece of shit Briggs and Stratton motor and got another six years out of it before the rest of the mower started falling apart.

We are playing two different games.

I have a lower end self propelled Honda that works fine for us. However, if I was to switch to a battery powered unit I would go with the EGO. We have an EGO leaf blower and battery powered edger and both have amazing power. I've heard the EGO mowers are top notch.

One reason battery powered tools are now working much better than the original battery powered units is due to the technology used to build auto batteries for electric cars. The batteries are making all the difference.

Waiting to see what sort of property we end up buying in NY State, got my eye on a 10 acre chunk of farmland - looking at the various electric riding mowers, would like a tractor mower - will need lotsa batteries though!! Prices will hopefully come down before we make a buy (could be a while yet).

Cheers

Oh man! With proper care, even a cheap-o push mower will last you 20 years.

Likely last a forty or fifty years at my place because it would never get used. Again, two different games. While you are still pushing your toy mower around I’ll be at the tavern drinking beer and watching the Kraken win game two.

Best cutting fine turf mower I ever used was a Cal trimmer front throw...sharpening the blades was a pain in the ass, but for high quality turf maintenance they are hard to top.
Most folks do not have the turf that would require one though.

Well, hopefully, while you sit there sipping on your oat soda, counting up all the icing calls, you'll think of me, shirtless, sweaty and gritty, getting 'er done. No-noise toys bringing the joys, boys.

Thread drift, but New York State?

... Yeah, have something close to NYC, where number 2 son is and for hopefully grandkids to experience "the country" - Not sure if we will keep the NC place over the long term, turns out now the wife says she misses winter... who knows?

Thread drift over ...

NY is trying to or in process of banning gas powered small engines including mowers and leaf blowers. You maybe going electric sooner than you think...

Last spring, about this time of year, I went out to un-winterize my 5 year old Honda. I always amend the fuel, run the carb dry and as the motor coughs, spray the carb with fogging compound. None of that mattered - the thing wouldn't start unless I sprayed a bit of ether into the carb. So the motor wasn't getting fuel. I phoned the two Honda repair places and was told I was 5 to 6 weeks out. I hired a mowing service, haven't looked back. (I did buy a replacement carb, installed it; mower started on the first pull, sold the mower). Now I can travel, go fishing, whatever..... no more lawn mowers - the best lawn mower.

I bought a snapper self propelled mower about 6 years ago, it has a garden house attachment so when your find mowing you hook the hose up and run the mower with hose running totally cleans the under deck. Also, always use non ethanol gas!!!

Another trick is when you buy a new mower use a really good car wax and wax the under deck before first mow. I was shocked at how clean it keeps the deck

Gene, I won't leave the sight, I'm currently in North Carolina in case you weren't keeping up. If we do get a property in New York, you will at least get reports from me from the some fine eastern trout streams - skinny water. I'll have to brush up on my Catskill tying though.

Cheers
