NFR Lawn Mowers

Non-fishing related
I've been running the Atlas 80v brushless from harbor freight. Pretty sure its a rebranded version of another big box mower. It holds two batteries and will mow both yards if the grass is short. It isn't self propelled but light enough its not an issue. Gravelly mole hills have been, thus far the only problem that has occurred. Solved with a 20 dollar kobalt mower blade from Lowes after performance was degraded enough. I also have the blower and string trimmer that uses the same battery system. No issues.

Last summer I replaced my 22 year old Honda with another Honda self-propelled. Great mowers and this one will be my last. I use an electric trimmer and sometimes an electric blower, although for big jobs I use my Stihl blower.

Ego mower, it’s okay, not great. Not much lift and I bought the high lift blade. It could use a sharpening, but the little lawn we have is pockmarked with dead grass from Maya peeing on it…

What started happening to your mower that you needed to replace it? Just curious. I have been pleasantly surprised with a John Deer walk-behind mower that I bought in 1995. It still appears to be going strong and the only issue is I've noticed over the past several years is oil fouling/carbon build up on the spark plug. It usually starts on the 1st or second pull.
A plastic part in the drive train went bad and was no longer available. Was 20 years old so I get parts no longer available.

On a side note I saw earlier today Honda has gotten out of the mower biz. Hmmm...

Yeah Honda will build mowers till 9-23, and then sell them in 2024. Sounded like parts will still be around anyway. Good mowers, but not a real big share of the mower market, which is going electric anyways.

Another vote for the 21'' EGO. About 3 years ago after decades of gas powered mowers that were always hard to start in the spring I had enough. Despite running the fuel in my Honda out in the fall and adding new fuel in the spring, it didn't always start. Then it needed filters, fuel, oil changes and sometimes a spark plug. The EGO eliminated all of that nonsense, just switch it on and start mowing. It has more range than I have lawn so battery power is not an issue, in fact the battery has been holding a charge over the winter. I like the quiet too.

The chore reward beer is a lot tastier after doing it with one of these.

I finally broke down and replaced my push mower wit a power mower. However, I dislocated my shoulder working on it. I had to take it apart to clean the carb. I got it back together and running, and dislocated my shoulder patting myself on the back. 😄

Electric start gas mower or battery electric mower. That is the question...

If you want a gas mower I recommend a Honda mower. Mine have been purchased from a Honda dealer. The first one lasted 20 years. I am on my second one and am 15 years in. They are mid-priced depending on the features you pick.

I have wondered about battery-powered. When my Honda mower dies, there will be no more gas-powered ones...
100% on this if you go gas.

9 years ago I I bought a Troy Built mower with a Honda engine and it’s still going strong. I have not done one bit of maintenance on that thing. It sits in my garage all winter with whatever gas was left after the last cut in the fall and it will still probably start up on the second or third pull the first time out this year.

Same here. Three years ago I wanted the least expensive self propelled mower with a Honda engine and got the Troy Built. Best mower I’ve ever had. Jasmillo is right. Keep it inside and no maintenance so far. Throughout the season is one pull every time and first mow of the season has been two or three pulls to start.

My honda self propelled mower is going strong after more than 30 yrs. It takes a little over an hour for me to mow my lawn. The only thing i have replaced is the cable for the blade clutch. The last couple of years it has started to use a little oil. Bought it because of the blade clutch. wanted something that i felt was safe for the kids to use when they were little. I only had to start it once.

Owned Honda ICE for years...Loved the first one (circa 1996) The second one 2001 had the self prop lock up after 2 years, routinely had to dismantle and relube. Bought another in 2019 and after 1 year self propel quit and I gave it to a friend. Bought an electric Husquavarna and never looked back. Honda motors are great the rest-sucks...

I'm in the camp of Honda self-propelled mowers. Like most have said, pull it once and you're running.
15+ yrs.

About an acre and a half of lawn here…not enough beer at the store for me. Currently using a Kubota zero turn. It has a Kawasaki twin for power. Easily the best mower I have owned.

Last rider I had had a Briggs and Stratton engine. It basically blew up a few days after the warranty ran out. Briggs and Stratton told me to pound sand when I asked for help. Kinda sad when a company that shares your last name won’t stand behind their products. I will never buy anything powered by a Briggs and Stratton motor again.
