Not very far. Roosters were just off the rocks, dorado a little further out once we found the Sargasso.
 
Just a small taste huh? Yeah you’re not super big on the fish din dins. Probably as tasty as other jacks. How did it taste compared to say, permit? Pez gallo ceviche? :LOL:

We set up on a point, live bait helped keep them around for a bit although there was a bunch of baitfish congregated. Managed a few fish in that time. I also managed to bury a 3/0 to the bend into my knuckle. Thank God for pinched barbs!!!

Thx....not gonna happen. We saw a few larger but no Grande. Today we got blown off the water. Family comes tomorrow but I may get a couple half days next week. That's what I'm shooting for...mostly.
 
Only managed this trigger before the wind chased us off. Going to walk the beach for a few hours in the morning before I head to the airport.

Spent a few more hours on the beach this morning. Got to see another amazing sunrise, and shortly after managed to connect with this little jack.

Afterwards, Randy and I had a last breakfast before I headed to the airport. It’s going to be really hard to go back to Taco Bell after this.

I know there’s been some discussion about whether you need to check all your gear. On the way, I carried a couple of rods and reels, plus a handful of flies. On the way back, I checked everything except one rod tube that wouldn’t fit in my bag. Which they made me check. And in case one wonders if they’re serious:

I’m glad Randy put this trip together. Next time, I need to spend less time tying flies, and more time on my Spanish, core strength, and balance.

Friends and I have been looking at a multiday charter in the Gulf of California, but haven't picked a place or guide yet.
