Inflatable Family Boat

Hi Jared,

I have an almost identical boat and it has plenty of room for 2 adults and a couple (small) kids. Works fine with any form of propulsion, rowed-electric-small outboard. Not too heavy and rolls up small enough to fit in the wife's Subaru Forester. Plus if you're rowing you can get one of your passengers to help with that too (two sets of pinned oars).

Not too costly and I've found mine to be very durable. I might meet your needs

Now we're talkin!

In that case, get a higher quality rubber boat!

Honestly though, for a family boat, size aside, is there a good reason you're not looking at something a little higher quality than something like an Intex? Personally, if I were after something to ferry the family around, I'd be looking at something a little higher end for safety purposes alone.

We decided to get one of the Sea Eagle boats. They seem to be reputable and time tested.

I agree about safety. That was the main reason we didn’t want something from Intex.

I do think there’s circumstances where an inflatable is safer than a hard boat, with kids. The risk of a puncture is low on our urban lakes. I’m more concerned about the kids hitting their heads on a hard boat. Also, a capsized inflatable seems less problematic.

That looks like a winner to me!

These are pretty spendy (~$2500) but look like they'd meet your needs and fold flat:

@jaredoconnor you can sometimes find amazing deals for those on FB/CL. For some folks, it's one of those items that ends up gathering dust in dad's garage forever. I have almost pulled the trigger a couple of times even though I really don't need one.
