Hostile Fisheries

In the 50 some odd years I've been fly fishing, there's really only one fishery that hates me with a passion.

It's Crane Prairie Reservoir in Oregon.

At one time or another, all my fishing buddies have caught some very large rainbows at the place but not me.

I don't get it. I use the same flies, lines and techniques but I think the largest trout I've ever caught there might have been a foot long.

No clue as to why Crane hates me but it sure does.

Do any of you guys have a fishery that has it in for you ?

Haha! I won't accuse u of click bait, but your title got me here. 😁
It had me thinking of all the sketchy places I've fished.

But in your context, I have a couple that I'm not willing to call hostile yet because I can't afford the fish gods to throw even more bad luck my way on those waters. And I haven't given up on them! Yet....

Yeah Gene, that went an entirely different direction than I expected. 😂

For me it's gotta be the torture I regularly subject myself to on my musky fisheries. Even though I consider myself relatively successful all things considered, it kicks my ass regularly enough for me to consider it quite hostile. It would probably be less so if I went out there in a sparkly bass boat or flats boat with live scope sonar....but hey, why not make a hard thing harder by fishing from a sitting position throwing 7-10" flies on a short 10wt glass rod? 🤷 what can I say, I'm a glutton for punishment.

Who would do such a thing
Lol....i just don't like hitting the easy button on that fishery...nor carp, for that matter....why i prefer walk n stalk.

It's the Sol Duc for me. Tough river to float, tough river to find walk in water, tough river to fish. Even when I've gotten on some really good water I haven't found many fish. I know its all there, I just struggle to adapt my gravel bar tendencies...

Mine is in the same neck of the woods as Crane (kind of) and that is East Lake. I haven't fished it alot - maybe 5 - 6 times but I haven't caught alot on the few trips I have gone and the fish I have caught have not been over a foot. I have better luck fishing Paulina than I do East. Kind of odd since East is supposed to be a top fishery in Central Oregon - but not for me.

You and I need to do a walk about and I can help you with that😛

Hostile fisheries are where there's someone I don't know fishing there.
😁

Other than that, i pretty much just will the fish to the bank these days...rarely even cast anymore...and if I do it's with a hookless fly.

What led me to spend way more time on the Bogie back in the day.
