If you know how to build soil you got it…so many people are clueless about dirt.My mother could kill a cactus and she grows way too many tomatoes. I don't know how, but every year her style goes well with tomatoes.

Shutdowns always cost a bunch of money, and the clowns never get anything in return.
It is performative theater by a handful of malcontents, intent on their fundraising and media appearances.
Nothing more.
The parks are closed, some national forests are gated, so be aware if you venture out those directions this weekend. It is not good to be gated in after a shutdown.

I live on a monthly SS check deposit… it will be interesting for an h of a lot of folks. All the stuff that should be shut down last like military paychecks and parks gets shutdown but the guys orchestrating it don't miss a check. Something's not right there. It's almost like they are holding people hostage who have little or nothing to do with the shutdown while for them it's life as usual with an extra splash of pomp and drama.
Not affected.I live on a monthly SS check deposit… it will be interesting for an h of a lot of folks.

Thanks for the info…good that you were financially protected. When budgets become a big lever a lot of someones feel the pain.As a long time now retired government contractor let me tell you the dirty secret about these shutdowns.
1. In every single shutdown to date the Feds have been given back pay. So what happens in reality is that the Feds get a free vacation.
2. If a federal contractor does not have enough funding and has to furlough employees during the shutdown they do NOT get back pay.
Freaking joke. Thankfully the several times we had shutdowns during my career our facility was kept open for national security reasons so we didn't get laid off.
Yeah, contractors lose during shutdowns, unless you're one of the exceptions like you indicate. Federal employees don't exactly get a free vacation. They do get paid for the time off, but can't really plan to use it as vacation time because you're required to be ready to report back to work the next day, or the next day, etc. If vacation consists of doing yard work or painting the living room, then yes, it's kind of like a vacation. The uncertainty prevents most federal workers from treating the furlough as a vacation. And there is always the possibility that this time Congress won't reinstate back pay.As a long time now retired government contractor let me tell you the dirty secret about these shutdowns.

Anyone in the house or senate who uses a government shutdown as a means to try to force legislation through will never get a vote from me again. Whether I agree with their policies or not. You can't use government employees and contractors and pawns. If you believe in the legislation you're pushing, do the work and get it passed by working with your colleagues in Congress. If you can't get it through, maybe it doesn't deserve to be put into law.The ultimate FU? During a federal shutdown, while all the federal employees are furloughed or working without paychecks, members of the House and Senate will continue to get paid as their pay is protected by articles within the Constitution.
There's broken, and than there's FUBAR..
Shusss . . . no one can admit that, and we were always advised, should we choose to do that, to maintain a plausible deniability.I know some federal employees are scrambling right now to gather all the stuff they need to work at home (illegally, without pay) when they get furloughed
