'A House Divided Against Itself Cannot Stand'
Sad but very true. The core MAGA House Republicans apparently don't understand how government, at least democratic government, works. It ain't like Buger King; I can't have it my way. Democratic government has never been about just getting what you or I want. Politics isn't perfect. It is the art of the possible. I'll never get all that I want, and you won't ever get all that you want. But only through compromise can we each get enough of what we need and or want to make the whole thing move forward. They either don't get it or don't care, or both. Their actions indicate their lack of fitness to be in government.

We are already in a recession. I cut 75% of my hours because it's not worth the expense of being open. My neighboring businesses are freaking out, talking about selling and getting out. A restaurant by me recently only had 3 tables for a whole Saturday.

As a restaurant guy myself, can confirm 2023 was a slot slower than 2022. Like 30%.
Yea, I'm sure different areas are affected at different rates. I have a downtown account that seems to be doing better then the poorer area where I'm at.

It's not left or right wing people that are out of touch. It's the ever-growing group that want John Wayne (anti-christ) to lead them by the nose into another reality that is not politics. Don't blame or accuse folks on this forum who speak from the "common sense" left or right. What's happening in the House of Representatives is a clear example of common sense politicians (both left and right) who have had it with the "Crazies"!

To be fair I don't think either side of the aisle works very well at all when the most polar party elements are at the wheel or at the least in a position to jerk the wheel at a critical moment. This state is an example of one party rule for thirty or so years and you have to be blind to see the glaring problems. This is why we have backhoes R us. Are we blazing a trail into an era where more government seems to be the answer for everything even when dysfunctional? Is fiscal sense a fifties concept? I've always had the attitude that government is like spices on albacore, less is more and freedom is always welcome so long as you aren't trashing the place or someone else. That said it's pretty easy to see the faults in the party supposedly that used to believe similarly. Facts are facts and bullshit is bullshit. There's plenty to go around and you can call it out without calling people names. You know what galvanises people into party lines, calling people names rather than calling out policy. People are more inclined to examine their positions and politicians they support when policy is exposed, attacked, and discussed. That's how the game should be played. The football fan bullshit of politics is really sickening to me and a harbinger of some pretty stormy waters we as a nation seem to be sailing headlong into with Ahabs on either side letting out more sheet in a squall. The nation could likely benefit from more moderates who are not career politicians yet in the current state of affairs have no chance to get anywhere. They are derided as rinos and not progressive enough. I for one don't want to sail into what is inevitable to come if this keeps up. To say the left works is not accurate in that it only works for a very loud few. The right I have the exact same complaint. Each side is great at destroying your autonomy and quality of life in a somewhat free country only with different mechanisms or bait. Meanwhile, the foam finger and face paint crew will cheerlead their side while drunk on twelve dollar beers proclaiming their conformity to a party extreme ideal. There's more than just Bud Light and whatever alternative "owns" the Bud Light drinkers of the country. We've devolved into a society where governance is used to hurt those who think differently than we do. That speaks of the third world and we used to be better than that.

Wow what a bunch of left wing folks on here. No wonder that state is a POS. Out of here.
I love rampant crime, more taxes that go nowhere, removal of constitutional rights, believing that warming periods never have happened before, "carbon credits" that hurt middle/low class specifically, people doing hard drugs next to playgrounds, drugs in parks etc. don't you?! The sanctuary city of Seattleites needs to start opening their homes up to migrants, Texas please send them this way we want them!

To be fair, I omitted criticism of the far left from my remarks because they aren't trying to shut down the government or prevent Congress from functioning. You and I can find plenty of other occasions to criticize Bernie Sanders and AOC and especially our more local state government.

Fiscal sense isn't just a 50s concept; unfortunately it's become a lost concept. But that's a story for another day. "Backhoes R Us" forever!

well, since this thread is likely headed for lockdown anyway...
Our country has always depended on successful negotations between two parties that though usually on opposite sides of social and fical objectives, usually share the same value of country first.
What has changed, however, is the emergence of the 'burn it all down' populist movement that cannot accept an America that is inclusive of the multi-racial, multi-sexual and multi-cultural demographic that is increasingly the majority of America, and so a moral war has been declared by a populist minority demanding the right to over rule a democratic majority.
And in a moral war who else do populists elect other than those who promise to burn down the very institutions they believe are empowering and behold to these evil changes in America, and vote them in to do just that.
And feeding the populist flames is a democratic majority that is abolutely gutless when it comes to controlling our borders, allowing milions to sweep across our country without any idea of who or what they are, creating an unsustainable demand for shelter, healthcare and education, all on the taxpayers dime, voting on budget breaking state reperations for moral offenses that took place hundreds of years ago, demanding the military assume the fiscal and moral responsibility of helping soldiers transition into women, likely part of their calculus when they enlisted to begin with.
And all the while an ancient body politik keeps a death grip on power, determined to stay in place to their very last breath, oblivous to anything but their own insatiable need for power.
Anyone who thinks this is all sustainable has not read much history...

Got to admit, I've been thinking about the Roman empire lately. I look out my window and see Goths and Vandals everywhere. My denarius isn't worth shit anymore with all the coin clipping happening up on Capotoline Hill. Roman bread for Roman citizens I say. If these barbarians want in, they need to fight in the legions for 20 years first.

I love:

Politics
Religion
Racial injustice
Gender labels

And fly fishing.

Can someone with more social media presence help spread the message, New York and Martha's Vineyard are getting all the attention lately . https://chng.it/9zQ7fhc789

Also slight thread drift, I've been farting in these jars since Al's 2008 speech but do not know what to do with the gas and they're really piling up. Once I figure it out though I'll make everyone jam!

I'm impressed, for a guy that's so full of shit, he's only farted three times and all these years.
Some are indeed full of shit on accident, that is just a sample. If you want them once I figure out what to do with the gas youre welcome to them @Peyton00! Non porous so no worries with bacteria/smells lasting 🤗
