Found a Commander!

Welp, apparently they're not as hard to get as I thought.
Gorge Fly Shop has a "wait list" but it's not actually full. They're shipping from Outcast next week, so I pulled the trigger and imagine I'll have it by end of the month.

Tell me what I need to outfit this!
Plan is for local river SMB, some still water, and eventually work my way up to mellow-ish moving water.

Hell yeah!

garmin striker 4, boat box/bag of some sort

Well, you could also go for an anchor (I've never used mine ever) and a drift sock for lakes, but using fins renders mine useless.

Congrats!
I'll be interested to see if they include a bag for you. And if so, which bag they send you. I love the big one like this:
Except the old one attaches with bolts to the IGS system instead of straps. I love mine that has the bolts vs the straps. I bought my Commander used, but pretty sure the bag that came with it.
I then bought a Striker and it came with this one:
It's much smaller and more expensive than the bigger one with straps, but at least it has bolts and has a separate top section that is handy.

I'm disappointed in Outcast/NRS that they no longer offer the big one with bolt-ons.

Either way, you'll absolutely want one of them. WAY better than trying to carry stuff in a pack or vest. They are also handy rod holders for rods that are not being fished. And they hold my beer.

I have the older generation so no stern IGS mount, but I would be very careful anchoring a Commander in moving water. It would be really handy for bobber fishing on the lakes though. I highly recommend the Scotty anchor for that: https://www.outcastboats.com/product/scotty-anchor-lock-w-deck-mount/

I would also caution against fins in most moving water. If it's stuff like the lower canyon Yak, then no problem. But if there rocks and real river type conditions are expected, best to trust your oars and not have anything on your feet besides a great pair of wading boots that have felt and/or spikes.

For lake fishing (you'll use it more on lakes than you thought you would) I like to always have the oars, fins, bag/bags and the apron. It's painful if you forget the apron. For bobber fishing I like to carry 2 anchors, but it's not as good as a pram or raft with 2 anchors. If the wind is steady then just 1 anchor out the back works ok. You'll sort of float back and forth, but not terrible.

And I prefer having 2 bags to carry crap (including 2 or 3 rods) versus using one of the IGS mounts for a rod holder. For rod holding for an active rod, you can just use the apron to hold it in place while trolling. Easier to pick up that way too. And I've also put my Garmin on the Commander. Strap on the transducer and also strapped on the Garmin just in front of the right oar. The IGS mounts are too far back for viewing comfortably.

You'll love it. Absolute weapon!

amazing, thank you for this!

I also recommend finding a tiger musky to stick to the side of it...

One other thing, while they are tough as nails (Commanders), 5/0 hooks sometimes stick a little too well....take a patch kit & a mini pump, just in case.

Even if I knew exactly what rock to stand on (errr, what rock to float over ;) ) I 100% couldn't make the cast (or 1,000) to catch one.

If you can cast those flies on your 8wt, you most certainly can make the cast.

but yeah, take a repair kit with you no the water...

I use a Ryobi electric for initial inflation, K-200 to top that off, then have a K-pump mini with me at all times.

Even with just the K-200, it only takes about 10 minutes to inflate (if that).

So you “found a commander,” didja?
Congratulations to you and your bride!

I use a Scotty rod holder as I do a fair amount of trolling on lakes and salt water. I like it on the left as I cast right handed and one can rap knuckles if not careful.
congrats and welcome to the team!

@skyriver @clarkman How/where are you guys mounting your fish finders (garmin Striker 4?) Where are you putting the battery and transducer? Fish finders are a whole new game for me..
