Fishing related adventures you are looking forward to in 2023...

I have a trip to North Andros in March that was postponed from November due to a hurricane. That is the only "big" trip I have planned for 2023. Besides that, I will be fishing my local waters from April to November and have a couple of trips on the books this summer to the Columbia to meet up with friends for carp.

I am also contemplating a road trip to BC or ID/MT but nothing has materialized yet.

5 days floating the Bighorn in April with a group of friends . Our annual six weeks in Montana fishing in the summer . Again in the fall Montana ,and Idaho for some more fishing, mostly Henry's .

2nd week in July is my usual target week to camp and fish dry flies and take life easy with my Dad somewhere in North Idahontana.
Later in summer, my local urban estuary will hopefully be invaded by pink salmon, and this time I have a new arrow in my quiver—a 9.9hp Honda outboard to strap on the back of my 12’ riveted aluminum 1993 Smokercraft.

Love Norway. That scenery reminds me of or drive from Bryne (Stavanger) to Priekstolen. Gorgoeus country. And many dont realize Norway has some of the most beautiful ocean beaches, your driving through acres and acres of farmland and then BAM....white sand and crystal clear aqua waters.

I'm looking forward to someplace I've never seen with fish species I've never caught. In between, there will be plenty of outings to all the familiar places between the Puget Sound and Rockies.

Trying again for Muskie in spring.
Isla Blanca /Cancun in July.
Tofino road trip in early August.
Tuna day with Nick in late August.
Coho Beach fishing in the fall

All else in between will be filled with SRC, bass and lake fishing.

Headed to Costa Rica in two weeks
I already posted a question earlier about a weekend on the upper Pitt River in BC in July. If that works out, probably will do a longer trip next year.
August will be ten days in western BC for trout.
Otherwise, out for trout in small BC and WA streams whenever I get a chance.
Except for maybe a day or two on the Skagit, I'm giving the steelhead a break this year. Too many hours spent searching for exceedingly rare fish.

Looks like Christmas Island in April might go down. Baja in May. Meanwhile mahi ahi Ono offshore, oio, papio, ulua inshore. Trout in the fall Montana.

Nothing special. Just playing it by ear, avoiding fires, and hot areas. I just plan getting out more to Western Washington lakes and meeting up with current friends and making new friends.

A trip to Sisters and the Merc are my destination objectives.

Some great plans in there, but I'm struck by how little mention I see of the traditional, iconic pursuit of local salmonids. I'm also struck by the ample evidence that the shift toward warm water species we used to joke about 10 years ago has become a reality. Not gonna be much room on those bass lakes this spring with all the fly floggers descending en masse....

To be clear, I have nothing against bass fishing; it's more the fact that I left a place where there is much better bass fishing to catch a steelhead on a fly 23 years ago. Glad I moved here when I did; I almost missed my chance. Now, I'm starting to think about what might be next. I like living here, and I'm struggling to think of a place I'd rather live, but the fishing (at least the fishing I associate with the PNW) has really gone to hell (if you don't have a big boat, anyway).

Back on topic....

I, too, will probably spend a lot more time on lakes this year, chasing bass, etc., largely because most of my favorite streams are closed at least half the year. I have been doing more destination fishing the past few years. Montana's great, and I have family in Florida now. I'll try to get back both places this year, but I might not make it, as other things are gobbling up my expendable income. We'll see. Probably more time on smaller creeks this summer.... Gonna do my best to make the most of it.

I don't think that's anything that will improve going forward. For better or worse, the world changes. And so I'll change with it.

Time to start a bass specific fly rod company.

2023 is going to feature mostly local fishing. I want to dedicate to fishing more Known Brown Trout Hangouts this year and build in some overnight camping to hit first/last light. I’d also like to join @Irafly on the sound for some salmon harvest this summer. And crabbing with my dad in Bellingham.

Going to the Beaverhead River in MT in late August for 2 days followed by 3 days on The Green River in UT.
Hoping to catch a large brown trout in the Beaverhead River.

Going with the family to PV next month and will try to figure out how to sneak out for a day. But I haven't even looked into it yet.

For trout, hoping to catch the salmon fly hatch on the Deschutes again and have a trip planned to fish the Salmon River in Idaho for the first time in the fall. I am sure that I will hit the Yak several times. We are planning a family trip to the east coast and I am hoping to get up to Maine to fish for a day or two. It would be my first time out there.

I am hoping to get a smallie on the fly when I visit family in the Chicagoland area in the spring/summer.

Finally, I am trying to work out a trip back to Alaska for my brothers birthday. Fly in with a multiday float for big rainbows, dollies, and salmon.

I'll be happy if I can make 1/4 of all that happen.

I'd like to knock these "local exotics " off my bucket list. Saltwater bull trout, central Washington carp and Lahonton
Cutthroat.
I'll do my local lake fishing for trout and bass spring and fall.
Dirt bag fishing Baker lake for sockeye in July.
Saltwater coho and SRC August through
November.
Hopefully some razor clam digging at Ocean shores if they open it.
Crabbing and clam digging at Birch Bay.
My much anticipated trips to Central Washington to trout fish with @Buzzy which should be at the top of my list.
If I do half of these goals it will be a stellar 2023.

A fall trip or two to some North Cascades rivers.

Some weekends exploring the tribs of some of the more famous rivers around WA.

More solo float trips throughout the year.

Preparing for a trip to Northern California for Steelhead and trout that was delayed by Covid in December and the monsoons that hopefully are ending. River should be in prime shape with the bigger winter fish and there’s a lake next door with some excellent trout fishing.
Anyone interested in Atlantic Salmon on a dry fly? Need to decide on dates for Nova Scotia trip, late June-early July is good but mid-September to mid-October adds searun Brookies to the menu. Looking for a partner to split cost of guide, car and lodging. $2K USD + airfare would more than cover cost of everything for a week.
