Drying your fly tool

I used rubber bands to shake excess DIY Bergman's floatant wax particles off my dry flies. Best floatant I ever used but I couldn't find a jar or bottle that sealed tightly enough to keep the naphtha from evaporating after 2 weeks, so I switched to Dilly Wax as recommended by Doug Swisher, no dryer required. I was always thinking Abel would come up with a fly dryer for shaking off desiccant powder for $50 so that Fly Banjo is a bargain!

I have used this rubber band idea for at least 12 years.
If you want to get desiccant or excess floatant off your fly you've already got the fly in your hand so a rubber band is a lot faster and works very, very well. Girth hitch the rubber band to a D ring on the vest, pack, whatever. Put the bend of the hook through the rubber band loop, pull on the tippet to put a little tension on the rubber band, and give the rubber band a couple of "flicks"; Done.

If it was difficult I'd screw it up and I still have both eyes and no facial scars.
 
The thread title threw me. On one of my moving trips a gentleman at the rest area was standing there holding his fly open while the dryer blew down his pants. Couldn't figure out why this would be a topic of interest.

Thread title threw me. I was curious what a fly tool is and why it needs to be dried off...so I clicked. :unsure:
 
I thought the reason for false casts was to dry off the fly ????

There always seems to be a new and improved tool for doing something or other that you don't really need.
