Cross Country Road trip

Just rolled into Omaha NB...now my wife wants to visit the Oracle Of Omaha's house since its only a couple miles down the street from where we are staying...

Buffalo burger & fries, hot beef sandwich, slice of blueberry pie & two drinks…$55.00. The gold is not in the Black Hills, it’s in Wall Drug…

I found that so funny that I had to show my wife. After driving from our home in PA to MT and back most every year for 40-some years now, we‘ve only stopped in Wall 2 times, once in 1977 and once in around 2003 when we stopped to show our grandson.

Times change, but Wall Drug stays the same: Always that same 5 cent coffee and always those $5 meals selling for ungodly prices. (The food does look good though.)

I’m enjoying your trip report.

While driving east from Montana, we saw all of these signs for Wall Drug in SD…100 miles away. When we left Omaha this morning heading west on the 29 North, we saw the same signs…in northern Iowa, 300 miles from Wall SD…so we decided we had to stop.
Didja get the bumper sticker?

Wall Drug might have the most successful advertising campaign of all time…

Perhaps rivaled only by South Carolina's South of the Border [You Never Sausage A Place (You're Always A Weiner at Pedro's)], for those who have driven I-95 on the eastern seaboard.

"Chili today, hot tamale, at South of the Border!!"

Amazing place - out in the middle of pretty much nowhere if I recall (probably been 20 years since I passed through and stopped.

Great report @Brute, and great trip - you certainly picked the right time of day for Rushmore, I passed by there and went through the drive-through in the evening many years ago, parking lot was chalk-full of tour buses; streams of people.

Cheers

Road trips, almost a lost art. Great report! Thanks for posting.

The Madison…it was cold (mid 40’s), windy and raining…tough sledding fishing-wise…only a couple dinks & whitefish from morning to early afternoon…
