Coffee talk

My wife got me a Breville espresso maker. Now I need a new grinder. Hard to blame her not knowing my maybe fancy seeming Baratza Encore burr grinder is a nice enough grinder but doesn’t go down to espresso grind. I tried it on the finest setting. No bueno, a thin bodied pitiful product. Been too busy to look into an upgrade.

I have the Baratza Encore ESP. It's a upgraded version of the standard Encore but it will grind fine for espresso. Half the grind settings are graduated for espresso while the other half is graduated for regular grinds.

It's quite awesome and will grind super-fine. I actually grind at the coarser espresso settings. I also grind for a Breville espresso machine. If I grind finer, I'll begin choking the machine.

Like your Encore, it's bullet-proof and simple. I'd definitely consider it -- unless you want to spend way way more for a high-end grinder.

Thanks for the first hand reco! I was looking at that one.

The Baratza Encore ESP *is* a nice upgrade from the regular Encore. I've been working on dialing in my espresso shots. It's a good time for working some decaf into the mix, which before now I was roasting for my wife and not bothering with much myself. Now that I have espresso basically any time I want, and with working on the art of pulling top notch shots, I'm having to watch the caffeine.😱👹

You'll like that grinder!

Since I can't leave well enough alone, I added a bellows to my hopper to blow the last bit of grounds through the burrs. The Encore retains a bit of grounds and pushing on the bellows during the last second or two of gringing purges them. Probably only an issue when you change beans or grind settings. Here's what I have:

Now that I have recently retired, I can't keep my hands off the espresso machine. Convenience has its drawbacks too. 😁

Does any active community member on here want a free, used but well cared for and working well Baratza Encore burr grinder? Just come pick it up in West Seattle. I see a lot of used grinders for sale online locally and I don't want to enter that fray and deal with the flakes for 40 or 50 bucks; I'd rather just pass it on to someone who will appreciate it.

FYI Kona Coffee & Tea is having their annual sale. 20% off bagged coffee including unroasted 100% Kona.

I went looking for unroasted beans on the big island a few years ago and ended up purchasing a 5lb bag here. If you have a taste for Kona, it’s the real deal.

Guys,
1. Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours from a rainy central PA.
2. Watch your coffee prices. Futures and Financials markets are showing a serious price spike in the works due to debilitating weather in some specific regions. If you can afford to do it, might be a good time to stock up.

Currently working on the Honduras and like it quite a lot. I know a lot of enthusiasts find Central/South American varieties "boring," but I'm just such a sucker for the chocolatey/caremely & molasses undertones. Would get again.
Have you got into the Columbia at all?

I recently placed my largest ever coffee order. 23 pounds of green beans are on their way here, presumably somewhere between California and Washington (SM's only charges a flat rate UPS $10-$15 for shipping depending on how much you're buying). I don't remember the total but it was between $150 and $200. I got more than ever because of somebody here writing that prices might be expected to go up, and because with my new espresso machine I am using more coffee than I was before. Coffee is just something I don't feel the need to whittle down to as inexpensive as I can get it. Anyway, I've mentioned how I can't settle on one grower or origin or style of prep. I love the variety and some experimentation. I've been in coffee hog heaven with my roaster and brewing methods and have been dialing in some bangin' shots most recently with some Kenya Kirinyaga coffee.

Here's what's on its way to me. A lot of one pound bags but some 2 pounders and a 5 pound bag of an espresso blend to work with:

I get anxiety just think about dealing with so many small bags. I quite like chipping away at bulk orders.
