Coffee talk

All this talk about drip, pour-over, Columbian, Arabica, Kona, etc. are old news. Why. Because all the cool kids are now drinking "wild kopi luwak" coffee (at $100+ for 4 oz), which is made from beans run thru a civet cat for extra flavor. I tried my first cup, at a friend's yesterday, and have to say: It might give a whole new meaning to "full-bodied" taste. Could the next big thing be that no home coffee bar will be complete without our own civit cat to, well, you know.....
This what a kit would consist of (Entrepreneurs might want to jump on this):

Personally though, I still prefer A&W drive-through (although I'm not all that refined)
Um, no. I clean a guinea pig cage....

Last winter I purchased some Mayorga Cafe Cubano (quite dark) to get through my non-roasting off season. I buy coffee on occasion when it’s too cold for outdoor roasting and also to calibrate my palate for when I go back to roasting my own.

I’m currently trying their Mayan Blend medium roast. It’s a right-down-the-middle crowd pleaser. I don’t taste anything wrong with it. It’s better than a lot of store bought beans. I would serve it to friends and family. It’s missing something that would make it unique. So nondescript, but in a good way?

What's your roasting setup? Guess I never remembered if you said. Do you not have a garage or something like that to roast in?

Maybe the curse of the blend. They blended the character right out of it.

My wife picked up some Stumptown Holler Mtn. I like it. It’s definitely got the berry fragrance going if you’re into that.

I roasted a batch of Yirga Cheffe from Sweet Maria’s and holy crap do I like it in the aeropress. I drink a cup and crave more.

I could see myself being a coffee tourist as dorky as that sounds. I always talk to our frequently Ethiopian Uber/Lyft drivers about Ethiopia and they usually talk about it like it’s paradise. Poor, but paradise.

Anyone ever try this?

Since the author of that article didn't mention what heat setting to roast the coffee beans, here is a little more comprehensive write up.

I ran to the corner grocery yesterday and found that they now carry a new locally (Olympia area) roasted line of coffee. It's called
Covabrelli. Finding this was timely since Dancing Goats (formerly known as Batdorf and Bronson) was bought by another company and has recently closed their roastery.

I haven't tried this coffee yet, but I'm looking forward to it. It's roasted in Tumwater, only about two miles from my house. I may pay them a visit to just sniff around. Also, for those of you who roast your own, they sell green coffee beans. Check them out at https://www.covabrelli.com.

I have no affiliation with this company. I'm just excited to have found another local roaster -- especially since Dancing Goats is fading out. Just thought I'd pass this along. I'll let you know how this tastes, once I open it and brew some.

Stopped by my neighbor across the street and saw her espresso machine. She made me a fantastic latte.. I did learn the grinding process, that the shots should ideally take 24 seconds and how easy it was to clean.. on my Christmas list!

Also checked out Seattle Coffee Gear.. the website.. so much cool stuff!

My current favorite coffee.. although I'll take a picture of the bag and my hand grinder and pour over stuff! Cheers!Screenshot_20250223_193827_Amazon Shopping.jpg

I am a big fan of an Aeropress brew for my fruity Ethiopian beans and the like. I use the inverted method.

What is the inverted method? I mean I think I get it and can google.. I've used the Aeropress at a friends and will pick up one on Amazon or the Seattle Coffee Company.. I love the Ethopian beans.. I had some a buddy roasted himself and tasted blueberries! Absolutely fricking amazing! Need to source some, probably at Cafe Lusso.. shouldn't be too hard to find..

You just stand it up so the “bottom” or filter side is up and open like a cup, put in your grounds, then your water, stir, maybe add some more water and stir again, put the filter on and let it steep for the amount of time you like. When you’re ready, flip it over onto your mug and press. This way you maintain utmost control of volumes and steep time.

This would be fun! Can't swing it now, but thought I would pass it along!

Next level for me! Woohoo! Got the coffee ground fine for espresso in my new aeropress!! So excited, I'm like a fat kid in a candy store.. no jokes please.. or no coffee for you! Haha!!

Check out Cafe Lusso in Redmond, a fantastic coffee roasting company! And Seattle Coffee Gear, I went to the one in Kirkland and found out that a former boss and friend at Total Wine is now running all three stores! Link is below!

Hi all. My name is Nick, and I'm here to admit that for the last several months I have been a lazy POS coffee roaster. In fact I have roasted none.

I've had a box with 20 lbs of beans from Sweet Maria's sitting in my dining room since I got home from Westport but I hadn't even opened it. Laziness and some other factors have just kept me uninspired in the coffee department this winter, to the point that I was drinking store bought beans and even Keurig coffee. Bleh.

Well today I finally rectified this disgusting situation. I decided that I since I am going fishing tomorrow for the first time in quite a while that I couldn't waste it by drinking crappy coffee.

Knocked out 500 grams of these beans. Took them 100 seconds past first crack. Look and smell good, but we'll see how it tastes in the am
