It's a variation of the non-slip loop knot () , close to this but I don't run the tag through the overhand knot until after I've wrapped the tag around the tippet three times. I'm probably tying it incorrectly but it's a knot that works for me and I feel like it's bullet-proof (even if it is wrong). Sometimes I get the loop really tiny, sometimes the loop is 3/4" long. I prefer shorter than longer but I doubt it makes much difference. I use flouro tippet for anything submerged and mono for dry flies and emergers.

Same here. Every once in a while Trevor will, in one of his vids, drop a comment about where the featured tie fits into his personal arsenal.

I wrap the tag three times around the "rod" side of the knot and pass the tag like you do; through the overhand knot and loop formed from the three wraps. If I hold my breath, count to seven, I can get the loop close to the size I want.




Sometimes I'd get out of the truck to scout access into lakes when the roads looked a bit sketchy. This wasn't bad at all, one year the woody debris was floating, we passed on this lake.



A "Trevor" fly, if I remember correctly, either Trevor or one of his lake cohorts, talked about how critical it is in fly design and tying, to make sure the thread lies flat on the hook shank as you wrap it up.

Haven't found good flat thread since they quit making nymo. I bought out supplies when I found them, but eventually ran out years ago.

Man that’s nicely done. Which pattern? I’d love to be able to tie wing buds like that. Can you give some instructions? I was planning on starting to tie in that general color but if you could provide the recipe I’d appreciate that.
