BC Mids?

My last couple of trips were in August- certainly not prime time for ‘mids - but the bugs and fish didn’t know that. There were a few decent hatches and fish ate chironomids when I put them in the zone. Can’t have too many varieties of chromies and black’n’reds. Sizes 12 and 14 for those trips to the high plateaus of the Cariboo.
Being that Phil Rowley heavily fishes BC lakes, would think the flies he sells are likely flies that work.

To follow on from this, there’s better chaoborus patterns out there, and I didn’t see any ASB patterns. Also bc fly guys and John Kent tying vids on YouTube will have you at about 25 patterns of flies and at 3 sizes and 5 of each, set for life but only able to fish 1 per rod

Aye but I fish 2-3 flies per each rod down here, better coverage of depth, size, color, up to x3. 4x if you have swivel based rigs and get takes but can’t hit fish. In 20’+ of water the spread can help or at least does in my mind.

when fishing, aren't we always by ourselves?
I didn't recognize the "glass worm" in the link that @SurfnFish shared. Over the years I've tied up perhaps a dozen variations of chaoborus flies and have tried them with no success. To quote a BC (Bruce) guide that my friend hired several times "If the troot are on the glass, go home". Bruce had portaged into Wyse Lake where I was fishing with two friends. Wyse was being STINGY. My midge boxes for BC look just like my midge boxes I use in the Basin (because they are the same boxes). I do find myself passing on the midges if there's not real evidence of midges and will hang jig patterns (one of my favorites is a "perch" colored jig that @Shawn Seeger gifted me).
I've been a big fan of bloodworms for a long time and recently posted this picture:
The two with glass beadheads were particularly effective at one hike in lake near Lac Le Jeune. (They worked pretty well for me two weeks ago on Basin lake).

Got a ways to go. I’ll post updated pics (as if anyone is really interested).
Togens is a great source for BC tying material and taper cut ASB.
These are on Togens hooks and top row their tapered asb!
A pattern @troutpocket once shared with me, he calls it the "gutbomb", kinda resembles the real thing, eh!

I’ve been trying to narrow down the ba-zillion BCFlyguys patterns to what “seems” to be the staples. It’s because there are a tra-zillion patterns out there I started this thread
What knot are you using to produce that teeny tiny loop?
It's a variation of the non-slip loop knot () , close to this but I don't run the tag through the overhand knot until after I've wrapped the tag around the tippet three times. I'm probably tying it incorrectly but it's a knot that works for me and I feel like it's bullet-proof (even if it is wrong). Sometimes I get the loop really tiny, sometimes the loop is 3/4" long. I prefer shorter than longer but I doubt it makes much difference. I use flouro tippet for anything submerged and mono for dry flies and emergers.
