Wow what a ride!
Have been a Seattle baseball fan since the Pilots and while greatly disappointed in the loss last night. The 12 playoff games were must watch TV for the wife and myself
A couple thoughts -
Thought Wilson on the whole pushed the right buttons but those moves only work if the players do their part.
Too many sloppy plays with errors, base running mistakes, double plays etc. extending Blue Jay innings and killing the Mariner at innings.
The Woo injury was significant which coupled with the 15-inning game led to an over worked pitching staff.
Last night's lineup highlights the real problem, with that low productivity it is amazing the got as far as they did. The batting average across the playoffs for that lineup was -
1-J-rod 208 - while some very timing hitting still chasing too many pitches
2- Cal 407 - the man
3 - Naylor 392 - Nails with some amazing defense
4 - Polanco 208 - While hit and miss did carry the team at times
5 - Arozareus 188 - just looked lost most at bats
6 - Geno 213 - too much swings and miss
7 - JP Crawford 200 - could not get that timely hit
8- Rivas 118
9 Robles 111
First off the bench Cazone hitting 107
Already started looking forward to next year. Needs to firm up first base with signing Naylor or someone similar, adding a lefty to the bull pen, strengthen the bottom of the line up/bench emphasis defense and hitting for average (the team already has most of the power it needs).
Only 4 months to spring training.
