Baseball 2025

Wow what a ride!

Have been a Seattle baseball fan since the Pilots and while greatly disappointed in the loss last night. The 12 playoff games were must watch TV for the wife and myself

A couple thoughts -
Thought Wilson on the whole pushed the right buttons but those moves only work if the players do their part.

Too many sloppy plays with errors, base running mistakes, double plays etc. extending Blue Jay innings and killing the Mariner at innings.

The Woo injury was significant which coupled with the 15-inning game led to an over worked pitching staff.

Last night's lineup highlights the real problem, with that low productivity it is amazing the got as far as they did. The batting average across the playoffs for that lineup was -
1-J-rod 208 - while some very timing hitting still chasing too many pitches
2- Cal 407 - the man
3 - Naylor 392 - Nails with some amazing defense
4 - Polanco 208 - While hit and miss did carry the team at times
5 - Arozareus 188 - just looked lost most at bats
6 - Geno 213 - too much swings and miss
7 - JP Crawford 200 - could not get that timely hit
8- Rivas 118
9 Robles 111
First off the bench Cazone hitting 107

Already started looking forward to next year. Needs to firm up first base with signing Naylor or someone similar, adding a lefty to the bull pen, strengthen the bottom of the line up/bench emphasis defense and hitting for average (the team already has most of the power it needs).

Only 4 months to spring training.

Julio has been a sucker for those down and away pitches his whole career and the entire league knows it. Maybe he can spend the off season on pitch recognition.

Maybe next year M’s, maybe next year.
If only Humpy hadn’t won…..

ugh. tuff. hopefully they can keep naylor, and it would be great to instill his type of attitude across the board. at times crawford could hit anything this year - maybe they can figure out where he is straying at the bat. i like arozarena, but cant figure him out, or if he is worth it long term. find a little more hitting.... they got this far w/o a lot, so maybe just a little more will be a big help - with a batter or two on base once in awhile, those home runs turn into multiple rbi's....

Keep coming back to the fact that Julio had one important job at the end of that game. Get on base so the Jays had to face Cal. And with taking ball four he could have done it. It was still a great season and one that brought a lot of pleasure to an entire region. I count myself among those who thoroughly enjoyed it in spite of the disappointment.

Live by the long ball, die by the long ball. M's had their chances the past two games and couldn't close the deal.

Was confused by a couple of the pitching change choices last night. And once again, double play balls killed them. But so goes it. Big game 7's are always gonna come down to a few bits of luck or good/bad decisions either way. Ignoring the World Series, I'm less frustrated about losing last night's game than I am about losing Monday's. They had a chance the whole way through last night. But the margins for error at this point in the season are very very small.

All that said, if any one of us had been offered "M's will make it all the way to game 7 of the ALCS with a gritty fun team, but miss the chance to get to the World Series. And oh yeah, their catcher will set home run records and be a legit MVP candidate." we'd all have taken that deal.

Fun ride. Nice to have meaningful October baseball around here again. Shame to not finally get to that first M's World Series. But only two teams get there each year. The rest look to next spring for another try.

Great season. Going to game 7 of the ALCS and losing by one run is about as close to the big show as it gets. Bryon Woo's injury and inability to get his usual 5-6 inning starts stressed the pitching staff. That probably added 1 or 2 runs for Toronto to each game.

The M's hitting is largely designed for slug instead of average and when you live by launch angle and back-legging balls you can also die by it -- e.g. Julio chasing a slider away in the dirt. I think they need to find pieces in the lower half of the lineup that are geared towards taking pitchers deep into counts and making contact.

As the best farm team in MLB, the Mariners went further than I expected. Then again, the Blue Jays played some really good baseball, not the sort of thing the Ms generally excel against. One game from the big show - good on ya' Mariners!

Noticing a loss of productivity today after a compelling playoff run. So very close! Next time don't taunt a wounded George Springer, he's a killer.

Dodgers and Blue Jays will be an exciting World Series. Both teams bring the thunder sticks.

Moving forward.....let's see if David can take down Goliath.

Go Bluejays!!!!
Not so sure on the David part - Blue Jays payroll ranks 5th in MLB at a cool 255 mil, guess that does pale in comparison with the 355 mil of the Dodgers, but it's still real money.

Having been born and raised in Montreal, even though it will give me great pain I will be rooting for the Blue Jays (hate the Dodgers even more than Toronto, especially since Black Monday).

6-9 in the order was the difference in the series. Ironically, Seattle's 6-9 hitters performed better (OPS) on the season than did Toronto's. Baseball is a high variance game and the Jays got hot at the right time while the Ms went the other way.
I think these were the 2 most talented teams in the AL and it was a lot of fun to watch. A small part of me is thankful that I get to experience disappointment instead of anxiety today.

Too bad they just couldn't score in the end, but sometimes you just can't...scoring isn't always easy...but there's always another season, another shot at things.

Will they be able to hit off of the dodgers pitchers? That's going to be there biggest issue.

Jays sluggers could pound the Dodgers' bull pen.
If they can get to the bull pen early enough. Someone earlier mentioned the fact the Jays having to go to a seventh game may take momentum into the series for a win but the break may blow up that process.

Take heart Mariner fans, you could’ve been born in New England in the 40s under the Red Sox cloud.😏

WORLD SERIES Game 1 at 5pm tonight! I like both franchises personally.

Anybody cheering hard for the Dodgers (besides Ive)?

Anybody a long time fan of the Blue Jays?

Good Luck!
