Baseball 2025

The mariners need to get the 3rd win.
Even if they lose the series....it's 1 more ALCS win than in their previous attempts.

That would put them on a progressive track to go to the world series in 2048.

Rough two games.

If they can win game 5, M's have a chance still to win or at least go down swinging back in Toronto. Going back down 3-2 after losing three at home seems like too tall a hill to climb.

For sure, Toronto's bats are on fire, but I think it all comes down to great pitching. That's what we saw games 1 and 2, and that's why they came home up 2-0. If Kirby and Castillo pitch even average games by their standards (say 2 runs over 5 innings), both of those games are at least much closer. Because they were "off," they both threw way too many pitches right over the middle of the plate. When you do that, major league hitters light you up every time. Credit Toronto for having a lot of hitters good enough to capitalize on mistakes (and for being frankly lucky, especially last night), but remember games 1 and 2, when Ms pitchers effectively shut them down.

Also problematic the past two games has been that they're not getting timely hits. They're hitting well enough to win with great pitching, but they're not doing what we've all seen they're capable of all year. Credit Toronto pitching with most of that, but I think the approach them Ms hitters are taking at the plate (swinging for the fences at all close pitches) is hurting them. A big part of the recent success Polanco was having seemed to be due to him using a compact, smooth swing and taking what the pitchers gave him. He seems to be taking bigger cuts now, too, and he's not getting hits. The Ms have lived and died by the long ball most of the year, and a tiger doesn't change his stripes, so we'll see if it turns around again.

As easy as it is for Seattle fans to assume impending defeat at the first sign of adversity, I think they're still very much in this. Home field has been a disadvantage so far in both Championship Series, so I see no reason why they couldn't pull off winning two more in Toronto. Keep in mind how exasperated the Toronto fans looked at the end of Game 2. They literally spoiled their Thanksgiving. Win tonight, and they're back in the driver's seat. Lose, and they still have a chance.

This, absolutely.

Agreed, and the stats this postseason bear that out. But I'd still be much happier if they only had to win one in TOR.

Okay, it's one thing to write this, and yeah the home teams have lost, but...why? Why has home field been a disadvantage when normally it is an advantage or neutral?

One of these two teams will have to win two out of three games to get to the big dance. If someone, at the beginning of the season, had said that the M's would go to the World Series if they can just win two out of their last three games I would have been all over that. Bring it on. How many teams and fan bases in MLB would be ecstatic to now be in that position. Though at times frustrating it sure has been an enjoyable year to be a fan of the cast of characters wearing the trident.

Oh absolutely. 100%

But part of the fun of being a sports fan is over analyzing stuff like this!

The thread has a lot of Captain Obvious and no shit Sherlock comments. Mine included.

Perhaps you’d like something a little more out of left field?
