Bamboo Fling

Well, it is the middle of April and time to think about a “Bamboo Fling” for this year. Let’s see what kind of interest we can muster. Unless someone has a different idea, we will use Cascade View Park in Redmond WA as we have done in the past. Last year someone suggested we incorporate glass into the Fling. What say you all? Let's pick a date. Most of us are married so Mother's Day May 8th is a no go. Thanks to Tom Bowden for directing me to this site.

We have a lot of travel planned this year but if I'm in town I'll be sure to try to make it. I'll watch to see what date the majority can agree on. I really had a fun time last year having some face to face time and casting some very interesting rods. Glass, why not??(y)

My vote is bamboo but I'll come and bring my sharpes staggered ferrule rods regardless. Saturday May 14, Saturday may 28 or Saturday June 4 fit with my travel/commencement/fishing plans this year.

Interested. I wouldn’t mind including glass, but there would certainly be enough to enjoy without it.

June 4th won't work for me. I will be wetting a fly Lake Curlew that week. May 14th or May 28th looks good.

Like Mike, I'll be traveling a lot this year too from late spring through September, so I'll hope I can make it but won't be surprised if I can't.

May 14th won't work for me.
May 28th might work.
May 7th the day before Mothers Day would be great.

After thinking about it more, I am with Tim about keeping the focus on bamboo. Many times, I have seen an event expand, become larger and loose it's unique personality. Bigger isn't necessarily better I guess is what I'm thinking.
Good point Mike, so no glass. I have several glass rods (new and old) but bamboo is where the heart is.

I thought I should bring up a consideration for a "Bamboo Fling" before school is out for the summer. My grandson is playing T-Ball for the first time this year and so are many other kids. This could have an impact on the availability of a large open area on a weekend day. It might be worth scouting the Cascade View Park site on a weekend to see how much use it is getting with the baseball activities. My grandson's games are scheduled to start anywhere from 9:30am through 5:30 in the evenings on weekdays and weekends in other parks.

As long as it's on a Sunday, or I know far in advance for Saturday, I will be there! I have Sunday's and Mondays off. I like the park we went to last year, but am willing to go somewhere else and drive a bit so others can attend easier. If we can fish a bit that's even better. Bamboos and fiberglass is what I want to see and cast. But any older rods are cool in my book. I have a weekend booked in May, the 21st and 22nd, but am open otherwise and will attend if I can. I'll be out on the Yakima this weekend and plan to do that or other trips at least once a month. The second Sunday of each month is a Spey day at Ben Howard, always on Sunday's from about 9am to 12pm.

I can throw out some dates, but would prefer to let others pick a day and attend if I can!

Cheers!

Stopped by Lake Wilderness down south and there is plenty of grass to cast and watched fish jump, so fishing too for those of us that want too. Would be crowded but we might be able to reserve a group area. I'll check.

Lake Tye is always good, but farther north than our regular spot.

Something in and around Gig Harbor would be nice too. Easier for people who live down south and we can chase sea runs on boo rods! Or just fish. Have some ideas, and plenty of food options in town...

This would be fun to meet up again in Redmond and I’m good to go after Mother’s Day weekend. I’m going down this rabbit hole and close to planing my first strips. I have a few more toys to share as I couldn’t make the get together in Oregon last year

I vote for Saturday, June 4th.

It's after the busy weekends in May (Mothers Day, peak E Wa lake fishing, Memorial Day Weekend).

How would that work for everyone?

I’ll be helping my daughter on her business startup that weekend, so I’ll have to pass this time and look forward to next years event.

Should be able to make it work, would prefer a Sunday but Saturday probably works best for most!!
