Bamboo Fling

I’m going to have to pass on it this year, as wife and I will be on a couple weeks long road trip in our camper.
Hope to make the next one.

I would like to attend but I may be in forks that weekend. If I am not fishing as planned I will definitely be there. I have no bamboo rods, and I’ve never even cast one, but I am awfully curious and an event like this sure seems like a cool way to get in the know.

Greg, if you and your wife are in Yellowstone that weekend join us for a day on the Firehole with bamboo rods in hand.

That’s kind of you to invite us Ron, but we’ll be going further north a bit early on in our travels. Plan is to go east after that, then loop clockwise and probably through YNP towards the end of the trip but we’re still not certain of our exact itinerary.
Never fished the Firehole, hope you do well!

The Firehole is great, although it's right along the road! I had a close encounter with buffalo on the Firehole, as they lumbered by, and the cars stopped and basically directed them right at me and a couple from Virgina. All was good, but that was one of two encounters on my quick 3 day trip! The next morning I was sitting at the picnic table, in the W Yellowstone campground when 7 or 8 buffalo came right through my campground, including a calf! I never moved so fast and jumped in my truck, just to be safe!

While fishing the Firehole another time, I saw a young hawk dive down and catch a fish, struggle to get back up in the air and then drop the fish! Poor bird must have circled for almost 5 minutes trying to get the fish back or another!

Oh and fish the Nez Pierce! Very nice! My trip was years ago in May and I got lucky on the weather, although a few thunder storms rolled in throughout one of the evenings that I camped. I prefer to going before or after the school kids are out of school and assume this year will be a very busy year in the park as camping / fishing / hiking is even more popular with Covid boredom going on!! Enjoy! Love fishing and camping in Yellowstone!!

And June 12th works for me for the Fling! Thanks for doing it on a Sunday! I'll bring my boo rods and some refreshments!! Cheers all!

Well, a little more than a month to go. Hope we get a few more people interested. I just put in an order for a new bamboo rod, should be ready for next year's fling.
What did you get or order? Inquiring minds need to know! Haha!!

Lawn cast a Payne 101 7’ 6” taper with an Orvis technical trout line. I might be getting a little better at this. Casts really nice! Hope to hit the Yak and maybe the little D over Memorial Day with some soft hackles.

I noticed a thread "My First Rod Build". Take notice and invite Dewbwol54 to the Bamboo fling. I have been sorting my rods to see which ones I want to bring. I have a few rods I plan to bring that are in original/usable condition as well as a couple that are in original but questionable condition.

I will bring the Holbrooks and I will bring a couple red willow rods that I know you will enjoy. I might bring a couple two handers also if anyone is interested if not I will stick to the single handers.
I would love to try the 2 handers! I've cast some very nice bamboo speys over the years and want to get one or two at some point!

I know I would like to see a two hander. Do you have a reel and line for them?
