Backyard Wildlife

Boys are warming up for the big event
They had better grow a bit if they're hankering for a go at the big 3 point. That's a big-body buck.

Living in the 'burbs, one does not know what lives in the area. Cameras catch a lot more than we would expect!

I and my family have seen bears, cougars, opossums, raccoons, and bobcats in person.

Cameras may be a good thing --> or not... LOL

Nope. I was referring to Stout Boy bedded in your other vid. Tall Boy is pretty chunky too.

Thanks! I stand corrected. ;)

View attachment 195274Not my backyard but in a very urban small creek. Ran errands by the store next to it and took a peek in it and sure enough…Sockeye!
Nice find! I don’t know where that was but based on the habitat description and guessing it was in the Puget Sound basin, odds are pretty good that’s a male coho.

North end of Lake Washington area. Coho was a possibility, but this one had a distinct olive green head and had that hen sockeye look.

Whether it’s a Cedar River stray, I don’t know…

That’s one of the few areas around here where sockeye do get in the mix and I should rely on the eye witness! Cool stuff.

As I was fixing coffee and beginning to make breakfast, I noticed a blacktail doe standing in the front yard / driveway. She stood there for the longest time without moving. Then a second moved up into the yard, closer to the house, and after taking a bite from a flowering shrub, she also stood stock still. After about 10 minutes or so, a buck moved from behind my pickup into the driveway and also just stood there. First time seeing a 4-point buck here in the yard or neighborhood. A few 3-point and lots of fork horn bucks over the years. I'm guess antlers with lots of points are not common because there are a couple of hunters in the neighborhood who ensure that a buck doesn't live an exceptionally long life. Anyway, a third doe rushed past the end of the driveway, and the buck took off after her. Must be that time of the year. Unfortunately, none of this was close enough to get a photo.

You should have popped that buck.

If ya spot 'em, ya got 'em with yard deer.

😉

No hunting license for starters, but mainly I wouldn't want to spend the day butchering the critter. If I wanted venison, it would be an unusual day around here that I couldn't find one.
