SFR AI imagining...it's fun!

Sorta fishing-related
Anyone who is influenced by these self-proclaimed "influencers", well ... gotta be pretty lame if you ask me, be a grown up and think for yourself ...

And don't get me started on the whole "manosphere" BS; I can think of nothing less manly. Stop your F'n whining and be a man ...

This is why PNWFF is the only social media I engage.

There's a whole new group of folks who have never known anything other than social media as a source for opinions, news and interaction. For them, it's 'normal' to consume content, derive views, and form aspirations based on content consumed on these platforms. Older folks see it differently, but 'normal' (and I actually despise that term in most applications) is how these things are viewed for many, regardless of the skewed nature of algorithm tailored Influencer podcasts, shows and postings.

It's an issue that AI exacerbates for sure...

One of the more pernicious aspects in that 'parasocial' realm is the rise of the 'influencers', especially in the political and issue advocacy realm.
Many (most) are paid by entities unknown to users, and their content is prepared in large part by the funders, then transmitted by the'face'...somebody earnestly giving their views, solutions to problems, reasons why this is bad, this is good etc... but really just spouting the 'line' their funders want out there.
The corrosive nature of social media in this sphere is particularly evident.
Yes that is the great sphere of Gullibility and evidential of its effectiveness for those entities who profit from it. Dodgeball for the social interface user. Hell its exercise. Unfortunately this required more effort to keep positivity in ones life should you choose to hang in the dig-hood!

"manosphere"...what the hell's a manosphere??
And, no I don't ai or copilot to tell me.

Other than specific schools, FB opened to the public in 2006. I think I had it in 2005 because I was taking some classes at the time at one of the schools with early access. I had it until 2016/2017 (phase out and deleted in that time).

I think no matter how you use it, the human brain just doesn't have the bandwidth to deal with the firehose of information, both "good" and bad that comes with the algorithms. I could go on long rants about this, but I think the only GOOD amount of use for it is zero. There's plenty of other ways to stay in contact with friends and loved ones as I've re-learned since running away from it.
I like to remotely communicate, in fact I prefer it. I am a self acknowledged bastich…
Not the stapler though.

Post # 169. jasmillo I have always enjoyed the images that you post here. And this is one of my favorites. Long ago, I was taught to learn the basics first.. and then disregard them. A tripod is to ensure a stable lens.. but what if we hold a chainsaw against the tripod while the shutter is open????
One time we looked at a pristine 8X10 print perfectly focused . Let's run over it in the parking lot with my jeep.. and make it "edgy". Your post #169 makes my heart sing. The image is truly evoking.

A brilliant photographer was given an assignment at Brooks Institute of Photography to photograph a toaster. The other students showcased their skills at lighting a shiny product for advertising purposes. This man ( that was later highly paid) hung a toaster on a clothesline and photographed the blue sky and white billowing clouds that the toaster was reflecting. Combine that type of mind with AI. and hold on to your seats.

Brooks Institute of Photography? In Santa Barbara? I visited there a while back.

Yes that used to be THE place to learn commercial photography. I worked with several people that were taught there. I can only imagine how the curriculum will be changing with AI imaging.

RIT is the other school. My friend went there. He learned all about how to make photographic film. Not so much art oriented, but more of the technical side.

Long ago, I switched to Fuji-chrome to replace my Kodachrome..It used an E-6 film that I could process myself...giving me a roll of transparencies that I could process and view that night.
Today.. digital and AI imaging makes those nights of processing E-6 film so archaic.

But the thrill of seeing an image that I created is still there. No need for an underwater camera and lights, no need to process the film, no need to go into photoshop, just play around and have fununnamed-24.jpg

I made up a stupid AI image the other day with pictures of old friends superimposed on Dukes of Hazard characters, using a free iPhone version of Chat GPT. It drew alot of chuckles from the old college friends group. But my 17-YO daughter saw and said “You wasted 20,000 gallons of water on that?” Maybe hits a little harder when we are at about 50% of snowpack here on the Wasatch going into spring.

Fun to play with, but yeah, what are the implications and real-time costs? Water? Noise pollution around data center? Power consumption?
