You’ll catch zero or twenty, nothing in between. Now that I've seen the Northern Lights, maybe I can finally focus on catching a shad or twenty.
Feast or famine to an extreme with the shadding. You’ll catch zero or twenty, nothing in between.
We're headed to the Willamette tomorrow. I typically don't hit the Columbia until around the beginning of June.Only 500 over Bonneville.. another week maybe 2.
Also on that note... one thing I've learned over the years: Where do you think the shad are before the big numbers start racking up at Bonneville? The ones being counted are the ones that are already up and gone (at least for us lower river folks).Only 500 over Bonneville.. another week maybe 2.
Bare gold hooks mostly. I might even turn you in to halibut if the ocean ever calms down. What you guys got for me?

Fly Fishing in Oregon: April, May, June
Spring in Oregon might just offer the most variety of any of the seasons when it comes to fly fishing opportunities. Most of the fisheries happening during the first three months of the year are still happening in some capacity, and several more...pnwflyfishing.com
I think it really depends on how far down you want to get. The one spot I fish for them on the bank (been a few years though), I was running a Skagit FIST with like 8' of T-14. So I don't think just a mono leader would have gotten me to the promised land.Question: For us chasing with a skagit line, think its better to run these jig hooks on a sink tip or a mono leader? I kinda feel like a tip just slows the sinking of the lead head over a thinner mono that just follows it.
Well the first ones I know of caught were over 2wks ago. I was holding out on this oneWhat's the earliest a shad thread has ever started...Evan?![]()
I wonder if we should make a full on "so you think you want to shad" article.Of anyone is curious about this fishery, I wrote about it here:
