How did you end up in your career?

I wanted to be a veterinarian. I got wait listed 2x, but never got in. I took a job with a Federal Law Enforcement Agency as a Forensic Chemist doing Arson and Explosive analysis. After 3 years I got bored working in the lab and transitioned out to become an agent. I spent 28 years on the...

    NFR 2025 Gardening Growing Thread

This past year was great for Tomatoes in NH. Hot & dry (not good for utility bill) Yellow/Green/Red is Mountain Spirit. It is a new variety for me and is supposed to be blight resistant. I can't comment on that as the dry weather curtailed bad blight attack on all planted varieties. I did...

Walleye-Not the most "fun" to catch (like hauling a potato sack), but if there is a better tasting freshwater fish I have not had it

    SFR What is this picture

The picture is from a NY Times article on an upcoming natural gas shortage (it you can believe it) in Anchorage. The article included this photo of people "fishing" in Kenai River. I cannot figure out what these people are doing. Netting salmon from the shore? I never saw anyone doing...

How many rods have you broken?

I actually have only broken one rod myself. I have had others broken due to no fault of my own Here are just a few: Favorite break-Sage 8wt broke in Alaska when I hooked a giant King Salmon. I was still able bring the fish in by hand lining Saddest break: My rod was in the back of a covered...

    NFR 2025 Gardening Growing Thread

I bought a compost tumbler off Craigs List a few years ago. It really does work very well. A few turns each week produces "good" compost fairly quickly without any odor, or flies. Since its raised up off the ground it does "go to sleep" in the cold weather, but jumps right back in the Spring...

It's been a great summer for tomatoes, air conditioning, and the electric utilities here in New England. Pretty much sucks for everything and everyone else.

    Best Scissors?

I buy scissors off Ebay for about $5-6. They cut fine. When they start to fray thread, I use them to cut wire and substitute in another cheap pair. For me, they certainly last 2-3 years. I am not a production tyer, so it's tough to justify paying $20 plus for a pair of scissors. It's...
