A.K.Best- Another one of the greats is gone

Archie, while he was still a band teacher and before he became A.K., tied thousands of flies for my shop along side one of his favorite Colorado rivers. I'll not forget his loud and boisterous laugh as it bellowed forth from a seemingly incongruously sized source. He seldom shipped flies to us much preferring to deliver them in person thus providing the cherished opportunity to sneak in a few hours or a day or two on The Pan. First John and now Archie. A couple larger than life characters who were fixtures around the cabins. Sure brings back memories and they are ones to be cherished.

Rest in peace! I have learned a LOT from his books!
Not sure why folks are responding with frowny faces. Was it because I was making it about me? I meant no disrespect. I never met A.K. I only know of him from his own books (with great and detailed tying instructions) and Gierach's fond descriptions in his books.

I think it just means we are sad that he’s gone. We understand it, but it’s still makes us sad.

Somebody AI up a picture of AK and Gierach laughing in heaven as they fish the Fryingpan during a frustrating mixed hatch and AK is fishing dries and Gierach just ties on a nymph.
