    OFFICIAL 2026 NFL SEASON DISCUSSION

Hey, where are Brute's Raiders on that list?

    Coffee talk

Yes, it is Olympic Crest. I've been a customer of Chuck's since he had the van with the mobile espresso set up that came by our office.

    Got any bird pics?

They are entertaining. The little guys startle the beejeezus out of me, divebombing and buzzing me, coming out of nowhere, when I'm the one who keeps their bottle filled with sugar water. No appreciation, I tell ya!

    Coffee talk

I've been patronizing a local - Olympic Coffee Roasters - for over 30 years now. His coffee beans are now up to $14/pound. I doubt I could do as well roasting my own. As for saving money, it would probably be something like all the money I save by tying my own flies - Hah!

    NFR World Cup

I didn't see that part either. I guess there were two poor sports after the match: the Argentina team and a fat slob dressed in a suit who thought he belonged in the victory photos. Some people just have no class.

How do I store all these damn fly rod tubes?

I might have to get a couple of those. My 5-gallon bucket runeth over.

    NFR Humor (No political jokes)

So many porch pirates. Hard to believe that so many are tempted. Even business women driving a Range Rover, no less! And the ones who call the cops claiming they are victims of assault - priceless entertainment.

    NFR What Are You Drinking?

Hey now, you should see my glass recycling bin - I use a 32 gallon trash can. I buy both. It's just easier to recycle large quantities of cardboard. And the recycling truck drive complains if I fill the can completely with bottles. Hah! He should have to carry all the full bottles down to...

Favorite recipes for basic store bought fish...

Once in a while I buy (previously frozen) Pacific true cod at the market. Some Old Bay seasoning, as mentioned above, and a hot cast iron pan, 2 minutes on each side, and blackened fish. Easy and tasty. Oh, do this on a camp stove or something out on the porch or deck, cuz it can stink up the...

    Marblemount to Rockport

Marblemount to Rockport float = ~ 10 miles. Depending on flow, floating straight through can be about 3 hours, but I've never done it that fast. Piece of cake as river floats go. The eddies mentioned above are unnerving if they catch you by surprise, but if you pay attention, as you should...

Off sides, by inches. Good call, cuz I sure didn't see it until the replay.

Voluntary Trip Reports - I need your help

If my July schedule wasn't already so tightly booked, I could fish Area 9 fish 5 days a week and fill out VTRs. Actually, just tell me which days the fishing is likely to be best so that I don't wear out my casting arm. Season needn't be open.

    Fishing license for 2026.

And guess which things will be first to be cut? Services to the constituents who have provided the Department with the most support over the years and decades. An agency that once worked for us (as they should since we pay their f'in way) now works actively against us.

    Fishing license for 2026.

It's like there is someone at WDFW who is actively trying to put the agency out of business. Their budget and management choices make them less relevant to me every year, make that every day. Now they can't do a decent job of selling a license and CRCs online. Time we all just fish WA under...

    Whats this feesh?

Age two Baker sockeye smolt. They should mostly be out of the river system by now, but with about a million of them, there's bound to be a few stragglers.

    NFR Need vehicle opinions.

My wife and I and extended family have had a bunch of Subarus with no problems beyond routine maintenance. Manual transmissions are all but impossible to get any more, but the CVTs appear to work just fine despite people generally complaining about them. I found myself needing a daily driver...

    Rain

Mrs. Salmo and I were staying in a cabin near Stehekin this past week. Wednesday during dinner a gust of high wind rolled through with some rain, bringing some thunder and lightning - and a power and water outage at our cabin. Unplanned adventure, you might say. Glad I wasn't hiking on a...

    Floating phone case?

Exactly why I still have and occasionally use an old school (can't believe I'm calling it old school) digital pocket sized camera. One that doesn't make phone calls.
