How many rods have you broken?

Three. One when a friend decided to drive crazy style, causing the cooler to pummel my Fenwick. Another gear rod dragging a coho through the seaweed and a beach rod victimized by an errant set of barbell eyes. Never bothered trying to return them..

Can we have a blue gill thread?

Yesterday I went out at dawn to try a, new to me, panfish technique that I’ve seen posted here. It’s basically just the same indicator technique you’d use for trout chromie fishing. The small lily pads found on my local lakes grow in deeper water than their larger cousins. So I paddled in and...

    What's in your vise?

No luck on Tues. with this pattern. I used this bug bluegill fishing. It was on the point with a redhead micro leech above it using the naked line technique. The leech was golden but no action for the dragon nymph..back to the drawing board..

    2 Rods on a River

Maybe a cassette reel would work out. They can be changed out quickly or a pre-lined second reel with leader and tippet already installed..dragging an extra rod around seems like folly to me..

Retrieving balanced leeches in still water

I use balanced leech without an indicator all the time. Floating line, long leader, slow retrieve. Just enough line tension to feel the take. Using a loop knot allows the leech to bob up and down. Here’s a video. Just use a leech instead..

Old fishermen w// bad eyes, do you prefer polarized readers or a separate pair of readers?

Flip down magnifying glasses, the type that attach to the bill of your hat, are my choice. They might take a session or two to get used too but are so easy and convenient to use.. https://www.orvis.com/product/flip-focal/1269.html

    Prowler Float Tube

What I like about the foam seat, is that the foam acts as a type of rigid beam that keeps the tubes spread apart when sitting. I actually added another 1” pad under the existing one (yes there is room in the seat pocket) so I sat higher and reduced the taco effect. I think the Fishcat 5 is a value..

    Not trout lake report

I went yesterday knowing trout fishing would be poor and looking forward to going for bluegill. Caught a bunch of them plus a few nice bass. I like stripping wet flies for them, because the tug is the drug. A Carey special and a grey micro leech worked best..Welcome to the club.

    The Hang

Went out this morning trying some more balanced leech. To my surprise 75% of my catch was at the end of my presentation while using the hang technique. First one was kind of a fluke, so I just kept doing it. 20 seconds at fifteen feet. Caught several fish this way. I’m definitely a convert now..
