I played with balanced leeches under an indicator at Pass Lake. I could go into the general area where chironomid fisherman were, and take advantage of the hatch...without doing the throat pump thing, or anchoring. While they were trying to "match the hatch" I was offering up a nice, fat juicy leech for the feeding fish. That being said.. Chironomid fishing is often the most effective fishing method..but not always. I will add..with a slight breeze the ripples on the surface of the lake will add "action" to the balanced leech under the indicator. For me this was key. A glass smooth lake surface did not work for me. I also used some jig style leeches under an indicator, and found them to be just as, if not more, effective.
