Or, Long Day Report

My original plans to trailer closer to humpytown were foiled so I spent the morning in my canoe off a local point. I saw a few jumpers but after over 4 hrs out there all I had produced was a follow from an adult salmon to the boat. The weather for salmon fishing was great, though.


With the kids going to an all day birthday lake party, I decided I needed to go check on some small streams I had not visited lately.

Ah, the beauty and majesty of nature, untrammeled.

There are actually two creeks here that i fished. This is near the confluence.



A lot of fish were sorta camera shy today.

I made my way to another old friend of a crick. It did not disappoint. I visited a short stretch, only fished a handful of pools, and when after pulling a nice coastal and a nice westslope out of there, admiring how they are much more beautiful than they need to be, and releasing them, I decided I was satisfied. I had been fishing and driving to fishing for about 14 hours at that point. Pretty solid day.

I don't disagree, but I thought that coastal Cutt (or quite possibly a CCT hybrid, but looks phenotypically to be "mostly coastal") was a real stunner, and that the photo might actually edge out the WSCT. But yeah, I know how we westside small stream aficionados just have a soft spot for the westslopes since we only find them in a few places here and there near home.

See how it was barely hooked? The fish were taking the flies so slowly and gently, it was crazy cool. A real "God save the Queen" type day.

That coastal cutthroat pic was pretty amazing and there is definitely an appeal of the fish less seen. I catch West Slopes all year where I live. A 10” brook trout garners more photographs than a 16” cutty.
