More simi seal leech versions. The net refinish last winter came out well.
Just missed the triple when the 3rd fish jumped just after netting the second one, threw the hook, bounced off the pontoon, and rimmed out. Freaking hillarious. The fish are so fit. Strong, lots of jumps, and just plain crazy!

Been having some success with these Thunder Ck. Minnows lately, stillwater fishing. Both countdown retrieve and trolling. I also use Clouser but these have been more productive.
This Willie Carey was my MVP fly this weekend in some new to me lakes, trolled/stripped on a full intermediate on the glass 5wt I bought from @Wetswinger .
Second and third place were chromies that I am just learning to fish, and 4th place was this old school dragon nymph:

He ties ‘em with a little longer head. For me, it helped to keep the bucktail from flaring outward too much and added a slimmer profile. Also, getting the hair wet when tying in helps to soften the hair for manageability…before storing, wet whole fly, hang by hook eye and let hang to dry. You’ll see why… 😉
Thx for the tips, I'm interested in this fly. Tied a couple but have not had much chance to use them yet.

Let me know if you would the recipe(s) for these… I think I can reverse engineer them.
The leeches on a full sink got more trout, the other flies were fished on a dry line, which got more interest from spiny ray's. The Scara Monger took a trout and some red ear, however the black martinez nymph was best on that setup.
Spectacular morning for a couple hours before things get busy.

Fished the same hairwing hare that was solid in the lake the other day as a top dropper dry/wet in the river today with a hot spot softhackle hares ear a couple feet beneath it. Hard to beat anything with hare's ear and a partridge hackle, several other flies did less well.
I got several doubles when a fish took the bottom nymph, the dry was pulled under abruptly, and another fish would just hammer it. Drew fish on it's own too, I like it.

Fished the salt for Sea Runs the other day with nary a nibble. After trying six different flies I tied on this one. Game on!
Just a simple soft hackle but it did the trick. Taken as a small baitfish or more likely a shrimp. Size 10.
